Ciru Muriuki reflects on grief, says women often face unfair public scrutiny
By Paulette Mboga, June 27, 2026Media personality Ciru Muriuki has reflected on grief and the way women are treated after experiencing personal loss.
In an interview posted on Friday, June 26, 2026, on YouTube, she said women in the public eye often face unfair scrutiny, especially when the loss is sudden.
Ciru explained that she has noticed a pattern in how women are discussed after tragedy. She said the treatment they receive is different and often comes with judgment during an already difficult time.
“Even when I look at other people, other women in the public eye, who faced losses, there has been some level of scrutiny to….this babe who won Tusker Project Fame, Ruth Matete. She lost her husband and was dragged through the mud by the internet,” Ciru Muriuki said.

She said the way women are handled after painful experiences deserves attention. Ciru explained that public conversations around loss can sometimes make the healing process even more difficult.
“There is something definitely gendered about how, when someone faces a loss in the public eye, how they are treated and how they are handled, especially if the loss is sudden,” Ciru Muriuki said.
Speaking from personal experience
Ciru’s remarks come after she recently opened up about the painful losses she has experienced within four years. She revealed that she lost her father in 2020 before later losing her fiancé, actor Charles Ouda, in February 2024.
“Unfortunately, very intimately acquainted with grief. In 2020, my dad passed away,” Ciru Muriuki said.

She explained that she was still healing from the loss of her father when she found love again. However, that happiness was cut short after Charles Ouda died, leaving her to deal with another painful loss.
“And when I was healing from that. I found love, and then I lost my fiancé in February 2024; that was Charles Ouda,” Ciru Muriuki said.
Ciru also spoke about returning online after Charles’ death. She explained that some of the comments she came across about her personal life added to the pain she was already carrying.
“People on social media were like, ‘That is not her first partner that has died’. The sh* people were saying were truly wild,” Ciru Muriuki said.
