Christine Wawira reflects on impact of speaking out against fake alcohol

In Instagram Stories shared on Monday, August 31, 2026, Wawira posted messages from people who praised her for drawing attention to the dangers of fake alcohol and potentially protecting others from harm.
Speaking out sparked change
One of the messages shared by Wawira came from a person who credited her with helping create awareness around the issue.
“You brought attention to the problem. You have saved many lives from death and many bodily damages from drinking that fake alcohol. You spoke up and that made the difference,” the person wrote.
The follower also reminded Wawira of a previous conversation in which they told her that her mother was proud of the person she had become.
“I can’t help but to recall texting you that your mom is proud of the person you have become. This is evidence 1. She is definitely proud of you,” the message read.
Responding, Wawira said she had not expected her story to trigger such a reaction.
“I had no idea this would create a chain of events like this but I always say be the change you want to see in the world. So by sharing my story it changed things!” she said.
The risks
Wawira also reflected on how serious the experience could have been, saying she was fortunate to realise something was wrong almost immediately.
“I’m very lucky I noticed it almost immediately and didn’t drink much of it because I could have gotten very ill or even died!” she said.
She described herself as a humanitarian and said she supports anything that helps protect lives.
“I’m a humanitarian so anything that is saving peoples lives, I’m right there with it,” Wawira said.
She further said the developments were helping her understand why she felt called to return home.
“I see more and more why I was called to return home. More change is coming!” she added.
Call for change
In another exchange, a follower praised Wawira for transforming a difficult experience into an opportunity to create awareness, while saying she deserved compensation after being harmed.
Wawira responded with her characteristic optimism, saying, “I always tell myself that I am a master alchemist!! I have the Midas touch. Everything always happens for my highest good!”
She admitted that she never expected the attention that followed her story, including the criticism she received.
“I definitely never expected any of this to happen! It’s been quite the surprise. Even all the hate I got was very unexpected, but now they are choking on that same hate,” she said.
Her latest posts show how Wawira has chosen to frame a potentially dangerous personal experience as an opportunity to raise awareness, while signalling that she intends to continue speaking about issues she believes can help protect lives.
