Musician Céline Dion has shared how she continues to stay positive while living with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological condition that forced her to step away from performing.

The award-winning singer is preparing for a major return to the stage, with 10 performances scheduled in Paris beginning in September 2026. After spending the last few years focusing on her health, Dion says she is ready to embrace life again and reconnect with the fans who have supported her throughout one of the most difficult periods of her career.

Speaking in an interview published on August 18, 2026, the singer explained that her outlook on life has changed.

“I’m honest, and it’s not always pretty. Sometimes it’s happy things, sometimes it’s sad, but it’s called life,” Dion said.

The 58-year-old added that she no longer spends her time questioning why certain things happen. “Instead of questioning life, can you live life? So I’m living my life, girl. I’m living the life,” she explained.

Preparing for a return to Paris

Returning to the stage has required months of preparation. Dion revealed that she has been working on improving her physical strength through Pilates sessions and ballet classes as she gets ready for her upcoming performances.

The singer admitted that she has missed performing and wants to show her appreciation to the people who have continued to support her. “It’s been so long. I would like to offer them something to show how I’ve missed them,” she said.

She also admitted that her illness changed the way she views public life. There was a time when some aspects of fame felt exhausting, but she now appreciates the opportunity to interact with her supporters.

“If you don’t want to sign autographs and you don’t want to get yourself pretty and you don’t want to be disturbed because your pasta is going to get cold, you can always stay home. But look at what you have,” she reflected.

Understanding stiff-person syndrome

Dion publicly revealed in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome. The rare neurological disorder affects the brain and nervous system and can cause severe muscle stiffness, painful spasms and difficulty moving.

The condition can affect a person’s ability to walk, perform daily activities and, in some cases, continue working. For a performer whose career has depended on movement and live performances, the diagnosis brought significant challenges.

Support from fans kept her moving forward

Throughout her health journey, Dion has repeatedly spoken about the role her supporters have played in helping her remain hopeful. During the 2024 premiere of her documentary, I Am: Céline Dion, she explained that the support she received from fans gave her strength.

“For a long time, for so many years, I have felt the love and the support of my fans around the world. They helped me to get where I am today,” Dion told E! News.

She also revealed that she made a conscious decision not to give up after receiving her diagnosis. “The way I see it, I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off, and it’s over,” she told Vogue France in 2024.

For Dion, the lesson has been simple. “Life doesn’t give you any answers. You just have to live it,” she said.
