Babu Owino denies claims linking him to ‘Wash Wash’ operations
By Cynthia Lodite, July 23, 2026Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has addressed allegations linking him to the Wash Wash Operation, dismissing earlier reports made by Benard Omondi Ong’injo, alias Ben Sirkal.
Speaking on Thursday, July 23, 2026, during an interview on AM TV hosted by Alex Mwakideu, the legislator dismissed the reports linking them to Terence Creative’s popular Wash Wash skits.
In his response, the MP questioned the practicality of the claims made by Ong’injo regarding where and how the illicit activities took place.

The legislator added that Ong’injo appeared to draw inspiration directly from online entertainment rather than factual events.
Owino has repeatedly dismissed claims linking him to Nairobi’s underground financial networks as politically motivated smear campaigns, although he has faced previous public scrutiny over his associates and the origins of his wealth.
Despite his repeated denials, the lawmaker has previously faced public scrutiny over his associates and the source of his financial resources.
The debate surrounding money laundering networks, locally referred to as ‘wash-wash’, remains a subject of public interest in Kenya.
These schemes typically involve fraudsters duping unsuspecting victims into believing they can duplicate genuine banknotes using chemical solutions and specialised equipment.
