Alice Mbeyu: 60-year-old actress clarifies why she is searching for love

By , September 20, 2026

Kenyan actress and media personality Alice Mbeyu has opened up about her search for love and companionship at the age of 60, saying she is not looking for attention or sympathy by speaking publicly about her personal life.

Speaking during a local television interview on Saturday, September 19, 2026, Mbeyu, who transitioned from teaching to acting, said she decided to openly discuss the subject because many people her age are afraid to talk about love, relationships and intimacy.

She explained that she once felt uncomfortable discussing such matters but has become more open after spending time around younger people, particularly Gen Z.

‘I’m not clout chasing’

Mbeyu said her decision to speak about her desire for companionship was not driven by a need to gain followers or attract attention online. She noted that people in their 50s and 60s can sometimes feel uncomfortable discussing their desire for love, yet having such feelings does not disappear with age.

“I’m not clout chasing, and I’m not trying to find any pity or get pity from anybody,” she said.

The actress explained that she wanted her openness to also encourage other people in her age group to speak about their own experiences without feeling ashamed.

“In the past, if you asked me about love or sex, I used to feel ashamed. I didn’t want to talk about those things at all,” she said.

Mbeyu attributed some of her change in attitude to interacting with Gen Z, whom she said are more open when discussing different aspects of life. She said the conversations she has had with younger people have helped her overcome some of the fear she previously had around such topics.

Mbeyu wants love and companionship

When asked what she is looking for at this stage of her life, Mbeyu was clear that she wants someone to share life with. She said she is looking for companionship, love and a partner with whom she can experience life rather than simply entering a relationship because of her age.

“I want what is called companionship, love and companionship. Someone we will walk with,” she said.

Mbeyu also dismissed concerns that being 60 should stop her from looking for love because of her age. She said she believes that the length of her life is ultimately in God’s hands and remains hopeful that she will find someone to love her.

“I believe God will grant me more years, and I believe that love exists. I believe there is someone God has set aside who will come to love me,” she said.

The kind of man she wants

Mbeyu also opened up about the qualities she is looking for in a partner. She said she would prefer a man who does not enjoy clubbing, does not struggle with addictions and respects his faith without being overly religious.

According to the actress, mutual respect and love would also be important in the relationship.

“Someone who fears God, not a fanatic who must be in church every single day, but someone who at least fears God, has respect. He will respect me, and I’ll respect him, who will love me and I’ll love him,” she explained.

Mbeyu also wants someone who can keep up with her active lifestyle. She said she exercises regularly and enjoys activities such as cycling, walking and horse riding, adding that she now wants to spend more time outdoors after many years working as a teacher.

“I like exercising. I usually exercise. I can lift weights, I can walk long distances, I have even ridden a bicycle, and just recently I was riding a bicycle,” she said.

Mbeyu says suitors are already reaching out

The actress revealed that her openness has already attracted attention from people on social media, with several men reaching out to express interest. However, she said she remains cautious because not everyone who approaches her online has genuine intentions.

“I have many people on social media who want me, who reach out to me, but you know you have to be careful. There are others called scammers. They have lots of lies, so you must filter,” she said.

For Mbeyu, finding love at 60 is therefore about having someone to share life with while maintaining the independence and active lifestyle she has built over the years.
