Kenyan travel YouTuber Diana Daisy documented Nepal’s villages, cities and Himalayan landscapes just days before a catastrophic flash flood triggered by a glacial collapse devastated parts of the country.

The disaster struck along the Nepal-Tibet border on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, killing hundreds and leaving more than 1,300 people missing, including foreign tourists and pilgrims.

Diana, who remains in Nepal, confirmed on Thursday, August 27, that she had left the affected villages two days earlier and was about 20 kilometres from the worst-hit area.

“I left the villages two days ago, and thankfully, I am safe. We are still experiencing heavy rains where I am,” she said.

Her recent vlogs now offer a glimpse of the country she had been exploring shortly before the disaster.

Back In Kathmandu

In “Flying To Kathmandu Nepal for the Second Time,” Diana returned to a country she describes as her second home after Kenya.

The vlog captured her arrival and early moments in Kathmandu as she prepared to explore more of Nepal and its culture.

City streets explored

In “My First Impressions of Kathmandu Nepal,” Diana explored the capital’s busy streets with a friend.

She documented her encounters with locals, sampled food and shared her observations about the city’s energy, its unique national flag and the cultural diversity she encountered.

Journey to villages

Diana later travelled away from Kathmandu in “10hrs Journey To the Villages of Nepal (Besisahar).”

The long journey took her through changing landscapes as she moved from the capital towards the gateway to the Annapurna region.

The video captured rural communities and the mountain scenery that would define much of the rest of her trip.

Dangerous mountain roads

Her “Extreme Deadliest Bus Journey in Manang Nepal,” uploaded on Saturday, August 22, followed her journey along winding high-altitude roads towards Manang.

The vlog showed dramatic Himalayan scenery, with Diana also sharing the anxiety and excitement of travelling through the mountainous terrain.

Exploring Hindu traditions

In another video, “I Studied Hinduism Religion For 12 hrs: it Shocked Me,” uploaded on Tuesday, August 25, Diana visited the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu.

She explored Hindu traditions, observed cremation rituals and shared what she had learned during her visit.

The videos, recorded shortly before the devastating floods, capture Nepal as Diana experienced it through its people, landscapes, culture and challenging journeys.

As rescue operations continue and heavy rains persist in the country, Diana has expressed gratitude that she left the affected villages before the disaster and called for prayers for those who lost loved ones and those still missing.
