Based in Nairobi, he has spent nearly two decades reshaping East Africa’s soundscape, effortlessly moving between producing, performing, and DJing.
Raised in Nairobi, Blinky Bill grew up in a musical household; his mother played guitar, and his father sang in church, exposing him to diverse sounds from an early age.
He first gained recognition as the lead vocalist and creative force behind Just A Band, Kenya’s alternative electronic collective that became synonymous with Nairobi’s cutting-edge music culture.
The band became synonymous with ‘cool’ Nairobi culture, releasing acclaimed albums like 82 and earning a cult following for their innovative, genre-defying sound that mixed African elements with global pop and electronic vibes.
After Just A Band’s hiatus, Blinky Bill launched a solo career, gaining international attention with tracks like “Mungu Halali”, a gospel-funk anthem featuring Sage, Sarah Mitaru, Wambura Mitaru, and Lisa Oduor Noah.

The song, whose title translates to “God Isn’t Asleep,” combines vibrant horns, soulful harmonies, gospel choirs, and Blinky Bill’s signature electronic production. Its music video, directed by Mbithi Masya, celebrates Nairobi’s streets and everyday people.
Genre-bending solo career
Blinky Bill’s solo catalogue also includes “Jam Now, Simmer Down,” “Bella,” “OH WAH,” “Ama Aje,” and “Compare E,” blending Afro-fusion, funk, hip-hop, jazz, and electronic elements.
His debut album, Everyone’s Just Winging It and Other Fly Tales, highlights his talent for storytelling through infectious grooves.
