Babu Owino provides health update on DJ Evolve, says he is about to walk again

Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Babu Owino has provided a defiant health update on Felix Orinda, better known as DJ Evolve, claiming the entertainer is “normal” and on the verge of a major breakthrough in his recovery.
During a candid TV interview on Monday, May 4, 2026, the MP dismissed public speculation regarding the DJ’s condition, specifically hitting back at claims that the entertainer remained unable to speak.
Babu Owino insisted that DJ Evolve has reached a stage of significant healing following the life-altering shooting incident.
The legislator sought to set the record straight on the DJ’s current state, asserting that his physical and cognitive functions have returned to a sense of normalcy.
“DJ Evolve is talking, Miguna said he is not talking, he is talking the way we are talking,” Babu Owino stated.
“He [DJ Evolve] is eating, he is healed. The only thing remaining for DJ Evolve is to go through the physiotherapy process so that he can walk. But he is normal,” the MP insisted.
According to the firebrand lawmaker, the DJ is now preparing for a phase of intensive physiotherapy with the ultimate goal of walking again, a milestone that would mark the final stage of a long and difficult rehabilitation process.
While the physical recovery continues, Babu Owino detailed the staggering financial commitment required to sustain the DJ’s specialised care.
The MP revealed that he has spent close to Ksh70 million to date, with monthly expenses for treatment and home care nearing Ksh500,000.
Babu admitted that maintaining this level of support has required significant personal sacrifice, disclosing that he has turned to external financing to cover the costs.
“I have been taking care of medical bills. Up to now, I have taken loans from banks, from my SACCO,” he explained.
Despite the controversy surrounding the incident, the MP reiterated that a deep bond remains between the two men.
He attributed DJ Evolve’s forgiveness to the fact that there was “no malicious intent” behind the shooting, which Babu Owino has consistently described as an accident.
As Babu Owino pivots his focus toward the Nairobi Governor’s seat, his self-described “restorative justice” approach—prioritising the victim’s total care over traditional punishment—remains a central and polarising pillar of his political brand.
For now, the focus remains on the DJ’s next steps as he prepares to return to his feet.
