Babu Owino elated as Jamaican star Kranium chants ‘Babu kwa sababu’
By Paulette Mboga, May 9, 2026Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Babu Owino has expressed excitement after Jamaican dancehall artiste Kranium was heard chanting “Babu kwa Sababu” in a video shared online by the Member of Parliament, MP, on Saturday, May 9, 2026, on Instagram.
The Embakasi East MP said his slogan had now reached Jamaica.
Kranium, whose real name is Kemar Donaldson, is known internationally for his 2013 hit song “Nobody Has to Know.” The singer was heard mentioning “Babu kwa Sababu” together with other statements delivered in his strong Jamaican accent.

“Babu Owino fever is felt in Jamaica as Kranium, a renowned world Reggae artiste, pledges loyalty to Babu Kwa Sababu Slogan,” Babu Owino said.
“Indeed, Bila Babu Tabu,” the MP added.
The video quickly attracted attention because of the unexpected connection between the Kenyan politician and the Jamaican musician. While some parts of Kranium’s speech were difficult to fully understand due to his accent, the phrase “Babu kwa Sababu” was clearly heard.
Excitement around the slogan
Kranium rose to global fame after the success of “Nobody Has to Know,” a song that helped him gain international recognition and later led him to sign with Atlantic Records. The singer remains one of the well-known names in dancehall music.

The phrase has become strongly associated with Babu Owino as the politician often uses the slogan during public appearances and political engagements.
The latest excitement around the slogan comes days after Babu Owino addressed claims surrounding his relationship with DJ Evolve after the 2020 shooting incident. The Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful denied claims that money influenced forgiveness from the DJ.
Babu said Felix Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve, forgave him before he offered any financial support. He explained that the forgiveness came from understanding the incident was not intentional.
The MP spoke during a television interview on Monday, May 4, 2026, where he described the shooting as an unfortunate incident without malice. He maintained that there had been no conflict before the event happened.
Babu Owino explained that DJ Evolve understood the shooting was a tragic accident. He also dismissed criticism from people claiming financial support changed the DJ’s position on the matter.
The politician has continued to defend himself publicly since the incident.
