Alex Mwakideu questions source of voter data after receiving UDA-linked SMS
By Paulette Mboga, March 31, 2026Radio host Alex Mwakideu has questioned how political parties access personal data after he received a message linked to the United Democratic Alliance, UDA party, asking him to verify his details.
He explained that he is not affiliated with any political party in the country. He said the message raised concerns about how his phone number may have been obtained.
“Siko UDA, siko ODM, siko DCP, sijajisajili na chama chochote cha kisiasa nchini,” Alex Mwakideu said on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
He said he works as a radio presenter and does not take part in political party activities. He explained that receiving such messages has become a repeated experience over time.
“Mimi ni mtangazaji, hii mambo ya kunitumia SMS. Si mara ya kwanza, ama ya pili, sikudanganyi,” he said.

He went on to describe the latest message he received. He explained that the SMS appeared to come directly from UDA and included instructions to verify details.
“Nakutumia latest iliyotokea kutoka UDA, inakuja kabisa ikitokea UDA,” Alex Mwakideu said.
He said the message included a link and a prompt that seemed targeted. He explained that the wording suggested he was being addressed as a candidate.
“Inasema, dear candidate, kindly check and verify your details using this link, wakaweka link pale,” he said.

He raised concerns that his contact details may have been shared with political parties. He explained that he does not understand how such information is collected or shared.
“Where do they get our numbers???” Alex Mwakideu asked.
He said the issue may not only affect him but also other Kenyans receiving similar messages. He explained that unsolicited political communication raises questions about data privacy.
“Have you received any SMS from a political party???” he said.

He continued to question how widespread the situation might be. He explained that repeated messages point to a larger issue that needs attention.
“Where do they get our numbers???” Alex Mwakideu asked.
He said the experience has left him concerned about the safety of personal data. He explained that people should be aware of how their information is used and shared.
