Tanzanian actor and comedian Baba Anjera has opened up about a past chapter in his life when he sought the help of a witchdoctor in a bid to revive his struggling music career.

Speaking in an interview with a local Bongo YouTuber on Thursday, February 19, 2026, Anjera admitted that he once turned to traditional healers at a time when he felt stuck and frustrated with the lack of progress in his music journey.

“I’m not denying that I once went to a witchdoctor, and the issue was that I wanted to succeed at the time when I was doing music,” he said.

He clarified that his decision had nothing to do with his comedy career, noting that comedy naturally sells itself based on talent.

“I did go to a traditional healer, but not because of my comedy career. Comedy sells itself. If you’re not funny, you’re just not funny, even if you go to a witchdoctor,” Anjera shared.

He explained that while comedy depends purely on one’s ability to make people laugh, music proved more challenging for him.

Despite investing heavily in his projects, including spending up to Tsh2 million to promote his songs and push online challenges in hopes of trending, his efforts did not yield the expected results.

According to the actor, he reached a point where he constantly questioned where the problem lay, especially after pouring significant financial resources into his craft without seeing growth or recognition.

“I went because of my music career. I would sit down and ask myself where the problem was. I was spending money, investing about two million in my music so that people could do challenges and help me trend, but still, the songs would not trend. I kept asking myself what was wrong,” he narrated.

Anjera disclosed that during this period of frustration, he drifted away from his faith and opted for what he described as “Plan B”, seeking supernatural intervention through witchdoctors.

He admitted that he humbled himself before a traditional healer and expressed his desire to become a star.

“At that point, I had drifted away from God and chose Plan B, which was to seek witchcraft and traditional healers. I went to a witchdoctor, humbled myself, and told him I wanted to become a star,” he shared.

However, he now says the experience only led to disappointment. The actor revealed that instead of receiving the breakthrough he had hoped for, he was repeatedly conned by individuals he described as fake witchdoctors who made promises that never materialised.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Baba Anjera said he eventually came to the realisation that there are no genuine witchdoctors capable of delivering the success they claim to offer.

“But all those times, I was just being conned by those so-called witchdoctors. I have now realised that there is no genuine witchdoctor because all of them kept promising that things would be fine, yet they were only scamming me. They were not real healers,” he narrated.
