Police nab 2 with bhang worth Ksh165,000 in Isebania drug bust

Police in Isebania have nabbed two persons of interest with bhang worth Ksh165,000 following an intelligence tip-off from a member of the public.

The National Police Service on Thursday, August 14, 2025, issued a statement revealing that the two persons of interest were found transporting bhang in a motorcycle.

According to a report by the National Police Service, the arrest took place on Wednesday, August 13 2025, when officers from Motemorabu Police Post intercepted a motorcycle carrying a rider and a pillion passenger.

“Police nab two suspected cannabis traffickers in Motemorabu, Isebania on Wednesday, August 13 2025, officers from the National Police Service at Motemorabu Police Post acted on an intelligence tip-off from a member of the public and intercepted a motorcycle with a rider and one pillion passenger carrying a black bag,” NPS said.

Police have further revealed that upon searching the black bag in their possession, the officers discovered 67 large rolls of cannabis sativa, weighing 5.5 kilograms and with an estimated street value of Ksh165,000.

“Upon searching the bag, they discovered sixty-seven (67) large rolls of cannabis sativa, weighing 5.5 kg with an estimated street value of Ksh165,000,” NPS said.

Notably, the Police have also noted that the two key persons of interest were taken into custody at Motemorabu Police Post and later transferred to Isebania Police Station for further processing and arraignment. The motorcycle and the drugs have been secured as exhibits.

“The two suspects were arrested and escorted to Motemorabu Police Post, later transferred to Isebania Police Station pending processing and arraignment,” NPS said.

Bhang intercepted in Kakamega

The National Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and protecting the public from the harmful effects of narcotics. Members of the public have been encouraged to continue sharing information to aid ongoing efforts.

The Isebania bhang bust just comes a day after police have recovered bhang worth nearly Ksh5 million in Kakamega County following a thorough search in a bid to combat drug trafficking in the county.

In a statement released on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the National Police Service has revealed that the bhang intercepted weighed at least 159.15 kg.

At the time, Police noted that the consignment, which was recovered along the Kakamega-Mumias Road on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, was found inside an abandoned black Toyota Fielder motor vehicle.

“Bhang weighing 159.15 kg was recovered by the police in Kakamega. On 12 August 2025, National Police Service officers on patrol along the Kakamega-Mumias Road recovered an abandoned black Toyota Fielder motor vehicle,” NPS said.

Likewise, the National Police Service noted that upon inspection, the vehicle was found to contain seven large bags packed with bhang, with an estimated street value of Ksh4,774,500.

On the other hand, the police are yet to identify the owner of the motor vehicle as well as the consignment.

“Upon searching, the officers discovered bhang packed in seven bags, weighing 159.15 kg with an estimated street value of Ksh4,774,500. The vehicle was towed and detained at Kakamega Police Station pending further investigations to identify the owner,” NPS revealed.
