Police intercept rider on highway and seize packs of bhang

Police officers in Kitui County have nabbed one individual on a motorcycle and seized packs of cannabis sativa wrapped in a polythene bag during a raid in Mwingi township.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) detailed the successful operation conducted by officers from Mwingi Police Station in the Mwingi township area.

The police have further revealed that the person of interest was busted while transporting the illegal drug on a motorcycle on Monday, September 8, 2025.

Elsewhere, in a sting operation in Ahero, Kisumu County, NACADA officers working with police recovered sacks of bhang worth Ksh12 million hidden in a house and arrested four persons of interest.

“On 8th September 2025, police officers from Mwingi Police Station conducted an operation targeting illicit brews and narcotic drugs within Mwingi township, Kitui County. They arrested one suspect who was transporting Cannabis sativa on a motorcycle,” NPS said.

According to the police, the person of interest was placed in custody pending a court appearance.

Likewise, the police, while announcing an ongoing operation targeting illicit brews and narcotic drugs within the area, have further stated that both the motorcycle and the drugs were impounded and held securely as evidence.

Police also added, “The Service remains committed to the fight against illicit brews, drug trafficking, and substance abuse. This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to safeguard communities from the dangers of these substances.”

Similar crackdown

This statement follows a previous operation in which police recovered 20 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa, valued at approximately Ksh200,000, during a patrol in the Sabwani area.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Saturday, September 6, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) detailed how officers from Endebess Police Station encountered two individuals on a blue motorcycle without visible registration plates.

“Police officers from Endebess Police Station in Trans Nzoia County, while on patrol in the Sabwani area, encountered a suspicious blue motorcycle without a visible registration number, carrying two pillion passengers,” the statement read.

The officers revealed that the individuals, upon spotting the police vehicle, fled towards the Soymining area and eventually abandoned their motorcycle during the pursuit.

“Upon noticing the police vehicle, the suspects fled towards the Soymining area and eventually abandoned the motorcycle. During the pursuit, one of the pillion passengers dropped a white 90kg sack,” NPS stated.
