A 10-year-old Grade 4 school girl was allegedly defiled by an unknown person in Kimargis village in Boito, Konoin constituency in Bomet county.
Confirming the incident, the victim’s mother who is widowed, said that the incident took place at her home while she was away.
She added that the perpetrator who has since gone into hiding, attacked the victim after she was sent to fetch milk from the neighbour.
The child was taken to Kapkatet district hospital for medical attention.
According to Dr Koech Daniel, the Kapkatet Hospital Medical Superintendent, the child was actually defiled.
“It is true that the child was brought to Kapkatet Hospital and she was examined and all the results showed that she was raped,” Dr Koech confirmed.
She has been provided with medical assistance and counselling services by the doctors to help her cope with the trauma.
Cherono Asenat, neighbour, said the mother of the defiled child has been struggling financially and is seeking help to clearing the hospital bills.
She is now urging the government to step-in and investigate the incident for the child to get justice and her rights assured.
“The mother whose child was defiled is a single mum struggling and we are urging the government to investigate the matter for her to get justice for her daughter,” Cherono said.
