Police arrest woman in Tana River, recover stolen Glock 17 pistol

The police have arrested a 37-year-old woman identified as Mumeni Nguma and recovered a stolen Glock 17 pistol.

In a statement issued by the National Police Service on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the police stated that acting on intelligence, officers from Garissa County, led by the Deputy Regional Criminal Investigating Officer (RCIO) of the North Eastern Region, in collaboration with officers from Madogo police station, conducted an operation in the Madogo area of Tana River County and recovered a firearm stolen and other items.

In addition, they added that the items recovered were stolen during a violent robbery that was reported at Garissa Police Station on August 5, 2025.

“Swift police operation recovers stolen firearm and other items in Madogo, Tana River. Today, 13th August 2025, police officers from Garissa County, led by the deputy RCIO of the North Eastern Region, conducted an operation in Madogo to recover a firearm stolen during a violent robbery reported at Garissa Police Station on 5th August 2025,” the statement read.

“Acting on intelligence, the team, in collaboration with officers from Madogo Police Station, escorted a female suspect to her residence in Bula Kartasi Estate, Madogo.”

The police added that a search of the premises led to the recovery of a Glock pistol, several swords, a smock jacket, a police belt, among other items.

“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of a Glock pistol with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition,” the statement read.

“Also recovered were the complainant’s wallet, holding his national identity card and his wife’s ID card, a Kenya Police Service Certificate of Appointment, military identification card, smock jacket, police belt, and several swords among other items.”

According to the police, the person of interest is currently in police custody pending processing and arraignment in court.

“The suspect remains in police custody pending processing and arraignment in court. The National Police Service applauds the swift coordination among the officers involved and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring public safety,” the statement read.
