Police officers in Migori have nabbed two persons of interest in a drug crackdown.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, on X, the National Police Service (NPS) said the operation was conducted by officers from Oruba Police Station in the Osaka and Pantee Pieri areas of Suna West.

The security team focused on narcotics and illicit alcohol, areas that have in recent months been flagged by local administrators as hotspots for rising cases of drug-related activities.

Similarly, in Kitutu Central, two persons of interest were arrested, and bhang worth thousands of shillings was recovered.

Crackdown in Suna West

The NPS said the Tuesday operation was part of sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking and distribution in Migori County.

According to the statement, two individuals were intercepted during the sweep, and items believed to be narcotics were recovered.

“Police officers from Oruba Police Station today, 16th September 2025, carried out a successful crackdown on narcotics and illicit alcohol in the Osaka and Pantee Pieri areas of Suna West, Migori County,” the statement read in part.

“During the operation, two suspects were arrested for being in possession of two litres of chang’aa, 89 rolls, and 17 brooms of bhang.”

The operation is said to have lasted several hours, with officers combing through suspected hideouts and areas reported to have been fueling the local black market for drugs and alcohol.

Residents in the county have often raised concerns about the rising abuse of narcotics among young people, prompting police to scale up operations.

Ongoing investigations

Following the incident, the two persons of interest were taken in for further processing.

Police indicated that they would undergo routine legal procedures, with relevant files expected to be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) once investigations are completed.

Community leaders in Migori have previously urged law enforcement agencies to intensify action against drug cartels in the county, citing negative impacts on education and security.

The latest swoop is therefore being viewed as part of a broader national strategy to suppress illegal trade.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its fight against narcotics and illicit alcohol across the country,” the NPS statement added.

Security officials have assured residents that more patrols and surveillance will be maintained in the region to ensure long-term safety.
