“We will take stern action against those practicing without proper credentials.”
Malindi LSK Chairperson Kiponda Mwagandi revealed that these individuals have been swindling innocent Kenyans by offering unauthorised legal services.
Teresia Wavinya Nicholas, a lawyer, advised those intending to open branch offices to ensure compliance with the law to avoid legal repercussions.
The LSK’s actions aim to protect the public from unscrupulous individuals and maintain the integrity of the legal profession.

This comes days after three people were arrested in Garissa town in a crackdown mounted by the LSK targeting fake and unlicensed lawyers.
Two others evaded the arrests, while four offices were closed down.

Speaking to the Garissa police station, LSK council member Steve Mbugua said they were reacting to numerous complaints.
“Our sole purpose today was to weed out and arrest those persons who have been masquerading as advocates,” he said.
Additionally, she disclosed that through various inspections, they have discovered a rise in touting incidents among registered LSK advocates who harbour unqualified individuals as operation managers or ambulance chasers who are mismanaging their profession and urged lawyers to employ certified and registered advocates while upholding their professional standards.

Wavinya pointed out that the operation is a broader initiative of eliminating quacks in all the 47 counties, and so far, last month, they arrested two people in Siaya, six in Bungoma and two in Garissa who were masquerading as advocates and duping the public.
“We are going to eradicate all quacks and masqueraders who have penetrated our profession, and if we hear of your existence, we are coming for you,” declared the LSK Council member.
“Every law firm, every office of an advocate, must be manned by a licensed advocate and registered for the particular office.”

Mbugua, who is also the chairperson for the LSK’s Practice Standards Committee, said they had recovered critical documents.
“This is unfortunate. Some of them involve conveyancing worth millions of shillings, yet the persons who have been arrested are not qualified and did not even understand what they were doing,” he said.
“And the members of the public thought the person offering them the services in an advocate.”
