Family of slain Wells Fargo boss Willis Ayieko lauds court on murder case progress
By Eric Juma, November 20, 2025The family of Willis Ayieko, a Wells Fargo boss who was brutally murdered and whose body was dumped along Mungorewe Stream in Yala, Gem Sub-County, have lauded the steps taken by the Siaya High Court on the case, certifying that it’s progressing well and justice will be served.
Led by the deceased brother of former County Council Chairman Aggrey Onyango, the case is taking the right trajectory and progressing well. With the lineup of the ten witnesses by the prosecutor, we are optimistic that justice will be served.
The witnesses were presented before Siaya High Court Judge David Kemei.
The family had called for thorough investigations into his murder, dispelling claims that the deceased was killed during a robbery.
On November 6, 2025, members of the national assembly called for thorough investigations into the murder case of Ayieko, with Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi noting that Ayieko was the director of human resources, where his role included overseeing investigations of high-profile cases involving the loss of colossal amounts of money and undertaking administrative action against staff found culpable.
He had said that justice must be served swiftly and transparently, as the family and friends are greatly burdened by the unresolved circumstances surrounding Ayieko’s demise.
On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the sister of the first accused, Victor Ouma Okoth, testified against his brother and gave details on his appearance on the day he allegedly committed the murder.
Although Okoth had been admitted to Egerton University to study medicine, she said he began exhibiting erratic conduct, including asking her to help him register a mobile phone number using her national ID.
Her father, who also testified, gave further insight into the family’s concerns. He narrated a disturbing incident involving his older son—Okoth’s elder brother—who police say was later shot dead in Kisumu during a confrontation with officers investigating Ayieko’s murder.
According to the father, the older son once returned home with an AK-47 rifle, threatening to kill a neighbour he suspected of alerting police to his alleged criminal activities.
The witness said he felt fearful and helpless as his son’s behaviour spiralled.
A significant portion of the session was devoted to forensic evidence. Chief Inspector Kieti, a DCI forensic analyst, presented water-tight evidence citing the situation of the murder scene supported by photographic exhibits.
He walked the court through the discovery of Ayieko’s body, the condition of the surrounding area, and the postmortem procedures.
His forensic report detailed the scene of the crime, the alleged drinking joint where the accused are believed to have assembled before the murder, drag marks, the body’s positioning, and other investigative leads that form the scientific basis of the prosecution’s case.
The financial trail also featured prominently. An M-Pesa agent testified that one of the accused withdrew Ksh145,000 using a mobile number registered under Willis Ayieko Onyango.
He supported his testimony with CCTV footage showing the suspect presenting an ID card bearing the deceased’s name.
The Kisa West Location Chief recounted receiving a missing-person report earlier that day, followed by information that a body had been seen in a nearby stream. By the time he arrived, police had secured the scene.
The body—face down and partially submerged—was later positively identified by Ayieko’s brother, Aggrey Onyango.
In another key testimony, Chief Inspector Kanano Elema, the OCS at Wagai Police Station, described acting on a tip-off about two suspicious individuals in a Toyota Axio.
Officers intercepted the car and recovered a pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition. Forensic tests later confirmed that the pistol belonged to Ayieko.
The prosecution team, Joyce Mumu, Soita China, and Mercy Mutheu, is expected to call more witnesses as it seeks to establish an unbroken chain of evidence linking the accused to the killing.
The case will resume on February 23, 2026, and February 24, 2026.
