Ex-Gor Mahia star Gattuso released on Ksh1M bond in murder case

A Nairobi High Court has released former Gor Mahia midfielder Collins Okoth, alias Gattuso, on a Ksh1 million bond pending the hearing and determination of his murder case.

Gattuso and his co-accused, Silvia Aoko, are accused of killing a 3-year-old girl in April 2024 in the Lucky Summer area.

Delivering the ruling on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Justice Alexander Muteti stated that the prosecution did not present enough grounds to deny the footballer bond.

“The accused persons have been admitted to a Ksh1 million bond each, with one surety of the same amount,” Justice Muteti ruled.

The prosecution had argued that the two accused persons might interfere with witnesses if released on bail or bond.

Additionally, the State told the court that the two did not have fixed abodes since, prior to the incident, they lived in rental houses, thus making them a flight risk.

In his ruling, Justice Muteti stated that the prosecution grounds presented to court to deny the accused bond were not sufficient.

Notably, he stated that the State did not present to court the names of the witnesses they feared the accused persons might interfere with if released on bond.

However, the court has barred Gattuso and his co-accused, Silvia Aoko, from setting foot in Lucky Summer, where the murder of the minor took place.

Justice Muteti also issued a stern warning to the accused not to contact any of the witnesses in the case, noting that if they do so, the bond will be struck out.

“The two accused persons are not to set foot in Lucky Summer or contact any of the witnesses in the murder case,” Justice Muteti ruled.

The court has also ordered the two to provide details of their fixed abodes, obtain a letter from the area chief, and deposit their passports in court, if any.

On May 14, 2025, Beatrice Awuor Odongo, mother of the late minor, denied having any relationship with Gattuso.

Awuor told the court that they only lived in the same plot but had no romantic or friendship relationship, adding that they would only exchange pleasantries if they bumped into each other.

“The first accused, Collins Okoth, was my neighbour; we lived in the same plot and on the same second floor, but I did not know him well. We only met sometimes on the stairs and would greet each other,” Awuor told the court.

However, she told the court that her long-time friend, who is the second accused in the murder case, Silvia Aoko, with whom she lived, had told her that Collins was eyeing her and had approached her for a romantic relationship.

She also told the court that she never at any time found Collins in the house she shared with Silvia, and that he had no relationship or interaction with her deceased daughter.

The hearing of the matter proceeds on September 23, 2025.
