Court issues warrant of arrest for Juja MP George Koimburi
By Zipporah Ngwatu, July 16, 2025Milimani Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi has issued a warrant of arrest for Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi.
This came after the legislator failed to appear in court on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, where he was scheduled to plead to charges against him.
The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) wants to charge the Juja MP over staged abduction and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
The Court also ordered the police to arrest Peter Kiratu and a man identified as Njuguna alias Njugush, who are also persons of interest in the said staged abduction, and who also did not appear before the court for the plea taking.
The court has now ordered the three to appear before the court on August 5, 2025, to answer to charges, including conspiracy to defeat justice, and providing false information regarding Koimburi’s kidnapping.
However, Kanyenya-ini MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Muhia, who are accused of participating in the said self-abduction, denied their involvement in the said act.
The four accused pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to defeat justice contrary to Section 117(c) of the Penal Code.
According to the charge sheet, the four, together with the trio who did not show up in court, are said to have conspired on May 25, 2025, at Mugutha area in Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County, to defeat justice by stage managing the abduction of George Koimburi Ndungu.
The Prosecution states that the plan for the stage-managed abduction was meant to block the MP’s arrest in a case where he is charged with four counts in relation to land fraud.
“The seven conspired to stage manage the abduction that was meant to prevent Koimburi’s arrest and arraignment at Kiambu Law Courts, to answer to charges as directed by the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) vide their letter reference ODPP/HQ/CAM/13/475 dated May 20, 2025,” part of the charge sheet read.
Meanwhile, State Prosecutor Victor Owiti did not oppose the four accused being released on bond.
The Prosecutor informed the court that the accused persons had earlier been released on a Ksh300,000 cash bail and had cooperated fully with investigations.
Magistrate Ekhubi allowed the accused to retain the Ksh300,000 cash bail but directed that each must provide three contact persons as part of their release conditions.
The matter will be mentioned on August 5, 2025.
