3,500 litres of Kangara, 180 litres of Chang’aa seized in Nairobi crackdown
By Nancy Marende, September 3, 2025Police officers from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters have seized thousands of litres of illicit brew in a major operation carried out in the Kahawa West area of Kasarani Sub-County.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that the raid led to the destruction of over 3,500 litres of kangara and the confiscation of 180 litres of chang’aa alongside two manufacturing coils used in the illegal brewing process.
Further, the NPS revealed that the person of interest behind the operation managed to escape arrest during the raid.
However, a manhunt is underway as officers intensify efforts to track down and bring the individual to justice.
“Although the suspect behind the illegal operation managed to evade arrest, police have intensified the search to track down and apprehend the individual.”

Dandora
This comes a few days after police in Nairobi seized and destroyed more than 5,000 litres of illicit brew in a major crackdown on chang’aa dens in Dandora.
In a statement on Saturday, August 30, 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) revealed that the raid targeted a notorious chang’aa den in the area.
“During the operation, police seized and destroyed more than 5,000 litres of kangara on site. Additionally, six copper manufacturing coils and three electric boilers were recovered and retained as evidence,” read the statement.
Furthermore, the NPS revealed that the owner of the den managed to escape during the operation and is currently on the run.
Nanyuki
This came a few days after police officers in Nanyuki nabbed one person of interest and recovered 54 litres of illicit alcohol during an evening operation in Likii Estate, Laikipia East Sub-County.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the intelligence-led operation was conducted on August 23, 2025, by officers from Nanyuki Police Station.
In a statement on Sunday, August 24, 2025, NPS revealed that the liquor, believed to be chang’aa, was seized and secured as evidence.
“During the operation, officers recovered 54 litres of illicit alcohol, suspected to be chang’aa. One person of interest was arrested and taken to the station for processing. The recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence, and operations against illicit and dangerous drugs are ongoing,” read the statement in part.
