3 detained in connection with looting godown near SGR
By Arnold Ngure, July 9, 2025Three people have been detained by police officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the breaking into and looting of a godown near the Standard-Gauge Railway (SGR) along Mombasa Road.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, DCI indicated that the three people identified as Francis Nyongesa Brita, Patrick Mutuku Mwathe, and Ezekiel Ndusa Musyoki are currently in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment.
“Law enforcement officers in Embakasi have apprehended three individuals behind godown breaking and theft at Vimit Convertors Limited, located along Mombasa Road near the SGR,” DCI stated.
Cut through the roof
The detectives equally associated the three with the destruction of the godown by cutting through its roof to gain access to assorted electronics, which they then made away with.

“The suspects breached the facility’s security by scaling the wall and cutting through the iron sheet roof. Once inside, they targeted the offices and made off with a trove of electronics, including two laptops, a Microsoft Surface and a Razer, a Huawei iPad, and a Soundlink Mini speaker, among other valuable items,” the sleuths noted.
The statement comes in the wake of an intensified search for people involved in the wanton destruction of property and those involved in the looting of businesses during the protests.
Nakuru arrests
In Nakuru County, DCI confirmed the arrest of at least 192 people and their arraignment in various courts in the county on July 8, 2025.

In a press statement posted on X on July 8, 2025, the DCI stated that these individuals face charges related to violence and property destruction that occurred during the protests held on July 7, 2025.
“Today in Nakuru County, a total of 192 suspects arrested for various offences committed during the Saba Saba demonstrations yesterday were arraigned at various courts,” the statement read in part.
In Naivasha, the Chief Magistrate’s Court handled the largest number of cases, including 17 individuals arrested in Gilgil for obstructing police officers on duty.
“17 individuals arrested in Gilgil for obstructing police officers on duty were presented before the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Naivasha, and were released on Ksh50,000 cash bail each,” the statement added.
