2 shot dead in Thika’s Makongeni Town as rowdy crowd sets car on fire
By David Nthua, September 7, 2025Two boda boda operators were shot dead in Makongeni Town in Thika on Sunday, September 7, 2025, following an altercation outside Makongeni Police Station.
This is after an armed motorist, who was being questioned after ramming a boda boda rider carrying one passenger from behind, unleashed his pistol and shot two random boda boda riders at close range.
As a result, an angry crowd torched his car before he was taken into custody by police officers at Makongeni Police Station, possibly awaiting further action.
Residents express anger
One of the residents who witnessed the entire ordeal expressed regret that one of the shot boda boda riders was his brother, and he went on to showcase a booking letter issued by General Kago Mortuary in Thika.

The witness regretted the action, citing that lately a section of motorists have gone rogue, and it appears nothing is being done to curtail the misconduct by a section of motorists who drink and drive, and to worsen the matter, some are untouchable because they are armed.

“Nilikua nasafiri nikapata ndugu yangu amegongwa. Tulikua na yeye nyumbani jana but leo nimepigiwa simu nikaambiwa amepata accident…. Polisi hakuna kitu wanafanya.
“Police station hakuna usaidizi ata kidogo. Kitu wanafanya ni kukula pesa. Sasa inabidi tuchome gari kama hii ndio scene ionekane,” one witness told K24 Digital.
Bodaboda leader speaks
Wading into the matter, Wilson Kibe, the chairman of the Kamenu Stage Boda Boda Association (KSBA) in the area, condemned the action and called for justice for the deceased.
He said the scuffle escalated after fellow boda boda riders noted that the motorist was trying to flee the scene.
“Mtu wangu akiwa amebeba customer wake akaguzwa nyuma na gari. Hapo ndipo wale walikua nyuma walikuja kusaidia, kumuuliza kwa nini, mbona umekwaruza watu pale nyuma.
“Hapo ndipo jamaa alitoa bunduki, akashoot hao majamaa wawili wenye sio wenye walikua kwa accident, ni wenye walikua wamekuja kusaidia.

“Ambapo wenye alikwaruza na gari, hawakuumia mahali. Pikipiki ndio iliharibika,” Wilson Kibe told the media.
It is unclear if the motorist is a police officer, as attempts by K24 Digital to meet with Thika West OCPD Lawrence Muchangi were unsuccessful.
At General Kago Mortuary in Thika Town, just a few kilometres from the crime scene, K24 Digital was given confirmation that indeed it is true that the duo’s bodies were booked at the facility, but declined to give specifics such as names due to privacy concerns.
