DCI: Man arrested for masquerading as PA to head of public service
By Valerian Khakayi, August 21, 2025The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of a person of interest masquerading as the personal assistant to the head of public service.
In a statement shared on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the detectives revealed that the said individual has been duping unsuspecting job seekers out of their hard-earned money with the promise of helping them.
“Detectives have arrested Abraham Kimeli, the person of interest who duped an unsuspecting job seeker by masquerading as the personal assistant to the Head of Public Service. His elaborate ruse cost the victim Ksh130,000,” the DCI statement read.
In addition, the detectives cited a scenario where the person of interest duped a lady in February 2024, who was seeking an employment opportunity.
“In February 2024, a woman working in Lebanon connected with a follower on TikTok who went by the name “City Tycoon.” Seeking a way not to return to Lebanon when her contract is over, she asked the alleged “city tycoon” for help in securing a permanent job back in Kenya. What followed was a web of deception that would ensnare any unsuspecting victim,” the statement read.
“The person of interest provided his mobile number and painted a false image of himself as a key player in government affairs. Earning the woman’s trust, he crafted a convincing narrative about a job opportunity, complete with a seemingly legitimate document purportedly from the Public Service Commission.”
The detectives added that he later acquired Ksh 130,000 from the lady under false pretences.
“As the person of interest continued his deceitful game, he began demanding facilitation fees, which prompted the woman to enlist her employer’s help in sending money through Western Union. Unfortunately, she was left reeling when she found herself scammed out of Ksh. 130,000, with a promised job that evaporated into thin air,” the statement read.
The person of interest is currently in police custody, undergoing processing, and awaiting arraignment in court.
“Thanks to diligent forensic investigation, he was finally trailed down and arrested. He is now in custody, undergoing processing, awaiting the legal repercussions for his fraudulent actions.”
