Zuchu reassures fans she loves Kenya and dismisses performance rumours

Bongo Flava sensation Zuhura Othman, also known as Zuchu, has put to rest rumours circulating that she would never perform in Kenya, branding the reports as baseless and reaffirming her deep admiration for her Kenyan fan base.

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Friday, August 29, 2025, the Tanzanian star expressed disappointment over the misleading narrative, saying it stemmed from a radio discussion that misrepresented her intentions.

She noted that she chose to ignore the trolls rather than engage, emphasising that she respects her fans far more than online detractors.

“One of the most hateful comments I have seen is the claim that I said I wasn’t going to perform in Kenya and that I hate it. I have always stated that I block people who leave hurtful comments, and this is exactly what I did when I first saw it. I know very well where it came from: two guys from a radio station discussing it, and I was like, “Who told you that?”

The artiste highlighted that her connection with Kenyan audiences runs deep, with a significant portion of her viewers hailing from the country.

She described the claims as hurtful and entirely untrue, reiterating that she would never intentionally slight her supporters.

“Give me the evidence. I never said that. So, the typical me, who ignores things, just blocked it and did not deal with it. Seeing it resurface now really breaks my heart because half of my viewers come from Kenya, and I truly respect my fans. I do not respect trolls; I respect my fans,” she added.

Latest album

Zuchu also gave insights into her latest musical project, describing her new album as an eclectic mix of sounds crafted to resonate with both long-standing followers and newer listeners.

The record boasts collaborations with regional and international artistes, including Kenya’s Heart The Band, Nigeria’s Yemi Alade, and her hubby Diamond Platnumz.

She explained that the album blends elements from her earliest works with her recent hits, promising something for every fan, from those devoted to classics such as Sukari to newcomers discovering her music for the first time.

“In my new album, I have collaborations with Heart The Band, Yemi Alade, and Diamond Platnumz. The album is quite inspirational. I mixed a little bit of everything; if you knew me from when I had my first EP, you will relate to this album. At the same time, if you loved me from hits like Sukari, you will also get something for yourself. So, for me, it’s a killer project that has something for everyone,” she added.

The statement comes ahead of her highly anticipated performance at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 final in Nairobi, where she is set to headline alongside Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo and Kenya’s Savara of Sauti Sol.
