Tanzanian songstress Zuhura Othman Soud alias Zuchu has heaped praises on her lover and mentor Diamond Platnumz for shaping her music career.
Speaking during a recent interview on a local TV station, Zuchu credited the award-winning musician for nurturing her talent and helping her rise to fame in East Africa and beyond.
Zuchu described Diamond as a selfless and visionary artist whose influence got her into the limelight. She highlighted his dedication to helping other musicians, calling him a hero not just to her but to many in Tanzania artistes.
“From where he came from, angechagua kufanya mziki wake mwenyewe, nobody would have blamed him. Diamond is everybody’s hero back in Tanzania and East Africa at large. He has nurtured a lot of A-list artists in Africa, and for that, I will give him his flowers. It takes a lot to put an artist out there, and his legacy precedes him,” Zuchu stated.
Diamond is selfless
The taarab music legend Khadija Kopa’s daughter shared that Diamond went above and beyond to support her career when he signed her to his Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) label in April 2020. She recalled how he temporarily put his career on hold to focus on her launch.
“When he was releasing me, he had to halt his career to work on me. He trusted me, he took a risk, and he is my hero.”
In 2020, Zuchu became the second female artist on the label, she made a debut with her EP I Am Zuchu, featuring seven tracks. Within a short period of time, she was ranked ranked as East Africa’s most streamed female artiste.
Her hard work earned her recognition, including the 2020 AFRIMMA Best Newcomer Award.
Besides the blissful music career, Zuchu and Diamond Platnumz have had a highly publicized, on-and-off relationship occasioned by breakups and dramas.
