Willy Paul calls out critics after Alaine’s collabo becomes Kenya’s most-streamed song

Multitalented musician Wilson Radido, widely known as Willy Paul, has taken a swipe at critics who discouraged Jamaican star Alaine from collaborating with him on their wedding hit song dubbed ‘I Do‘.

Taking to his official Instagram account on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Willy Paul thanked Alaine for ignoring the naysayers and believing in their project.

The Na Na Na hitmaker said that after the release, the song became an instant hit despite.

The singer added that ‘I Do’ has gone on to dominate Kenya’s streaming platforms, making waves far beyond the country’s borders.

“A very big thank you to Alaine. I remember before recording the song ‘I Do’ so many people, promoters, and frenemies were against it, they told Alaine not to sing with me. She ignored them, and we made a hit regardless. To The People Involved, I Know You. Shame on you! I Do Still Make Shaking The Global Market,” he said.

The wedding song, released in 2017, became an instant favourite, making it one of the most memorable cross-border collaborations in the Kenyan music scene.

This comes after he publicly questioned why he was not included in the performance lineup for the recently concluded Luo Festival 2025, despite his roots in the Luo community.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, August 11, the award-winning artist shared a video addressing Lang’ata Member of Parliament and event organiser Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, who was one of the event’s organisers. In a playful yet pointed tone, Willy Paul asked.

Jalango, kulikua na Luo festival. Lakini niko na swali. Sikuwangi mjaluo? Mimi si mjaka?” he asked.

Known for blending music with a vibrant public persona, Willy used the moment to remind fans of his Luo roots and his readiness to take part in cultural celebrations. Whether he will feature in the next edition of the Luo Festival remains an open question, but his Instagram post has ensured that the discussion will go on for some time.

The festival featured top Luo musicians, DJs, and cultural displays. The attendees enjoyed performances from Iyanni, Javan Macajudo, Khaligraph Jones, Okello Max, Coster Ojwang, John Junior, Musa Jakadala, Osito Kale, Odongo Swag, Prince Inda, Tony Nyadundo, and Emma Jalamo (final performance), with DJ Joe Mfalme entertaining them for the rest of the event.
