Stoopid Boy calls out industry gatekeeping, says he’s tired of being used
By Mustafa Juma, July 13, 2025Kenyan entertainer and rapper Stoopid Boy has once again stirred public conversation after delivering a passionate interview on live television, where he opened up about his struggles in the music industry, exploitation by content promoters, and his determination to support genuine talent.
Speaking on the night of Saturday, July 12, 2025, during an interview with a local TV station, Stoopid Boy highlighted the hustle of fellow artist Keydoh, whom he praised for relentless effort and collaboration despite financial constraints.
“Keydoh ni msanii amejaribu sana kupush. Hadi kuna ngoma amepiga na Madini Classic. Ni mtu anapush talent na anajituma sana. Unajua mziki bado kama hauna ganji, huwezi jiita msanii pale kwa ghetto. Kama hiyo video ya ‘kujicompose,’ imetucost almost Ksh50,000. Keydoh amecontribute na mimi nikajazilia na kile nilikuwa nayo, ju iko kwa account yangu hiyo ngoma,” he said.
Loosely translated as: “Keydoh is an artist who has really been trying to push himself. He’s even done a track with Madini Classic. He’s someone who puts in the effort and truly believes in his talent. You know, in the ghetto, if you don’t have money, you can’t really call yourself an artist. Like that video for ‘Kujicompose’—it ’cost us almost KSh50,000. Keydoh contributed, and I added what I had, since the song is on my account.”
Stoopid Boy on working with labels
He went on to explain that he only wants to work with people who show genuine effort and commitment to their craft, saying he’s no longer interested in exploitative offers from labels or media personalities.
“Mimi nataka kufanya kazi na watu wananionyesha effort yao. Alafu pia, mimi nimechoka kutumika saa hizi. Sai mtu asiniambie ananisign, mtu asiniambie ananifanyia kitu. Time unaeza niambia unanisaidia ni unitolee ngoma unipostie kwa account yangu. At least hiyo watchtime pia inaeza nilipa nikuwe najilipia keja,” stoopid Boy said.
Fallout with Obinna
Stoopid Boy also addressed his ongoing fallout with media personality Oga Obinna, whom he accused of hijacking one of his recent music projects.
“Unajua ni kwanini nakosana na akina Obinna pia? Angalia hiyo ngoma yangu inaitwa niko sangwangwa yenye imekuwa produced na King Phyzzle. Obinna ndo ameshoot video na wamepost kwa account yao, sio yangu. Wamepost kwa account yao ndo wafungie hii ngoma yetu isisonge,” he said.
