Stella Mengele reacts to revelation that Betty Bayo died fearing trolls
By William Muthama, November 17, 2025Kamba musician Stella Mengele has spoken out against the devastating effects of online bullying, following the death of singer Betty Bayo.
The singer highlighted how relentless trolling and social media harassment can drive victims into fear, isolation, and emotional trauma.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on Monday, November 17, 2025, Mengele described the extreme emotional toll that constant online abuse inflicted on Bayo.
She urged Kenyans to be more compassionate and mindful in their online interactions, emphasising that no one should live in fear of hatred or public shaming.
“She carried so much pain and fear to the extent that she didn’t want her illness to be known for fear of more insults.”
She added that while people may love or dislike her, no one should be bullied to the point of living in fear of hatred.
She concluded with a personal pledge to advocate for safer online spaces and called for collective responsibility in ending harmful online behaviour.

Mengele’s tribute echoed sentiments shared by Singer Shiru wa GP, who noted that Bayo spent her final days feeling unloved and isolated due to cyberbullying.

Shiru wa GP highlighted that even in her hospital bed, Betty Bayo feared being mocked for her illness, unaware of how much she was cherished.
“You died thinking that everyone hated you, and you were traumatised by Social Media bullying. Even in your hospital bed, you were terrified that you would be mocked for your illness. I wish you could open your eyes and see how much you are loved”- Shiru wa GP’noted.
Betty Bayo, the renowned hitmaker of songs such as 11th Hour, succumbed on Monday, November 10, 2025, after battling acute leukaemia and excessive bleeding.
She was first admitted to AAR Hospital on Kiambu Road before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she passed away at 1:03 pm.
