Regina Muthoni’s best friend reveals how she struggled with cancer before dying
By Steve Ireri, October 13, 2025Gospel singer Regina Muthoni’s best friend, Veronica Wairimu, has narrated how life became increasingly difficult for the singer after she was diagnosed with cancer and how she had moved through multiple hospitals seeking treatment before she died in her Githurai 44 home.
Speaking during her memorial service on Sunday, October 12, 2025, Veronica shared the painful journey Regina endured in her final months.
She revealed that they had visited St Peter’s, St John, Kiambu, and Kenyatta hospitals, navigating long consultations, exhaustive treatments, and the emotional toll of an illness that gradually weakened the singer.
“I first want to thank you all for coming to this memorial. My name is Veronica Wairimu. Regina was my close friend, and I have known her since 1988, along with other artistes like Queen Jane. I even worked with her and other artistes. I am deeply grateful that God gave me the opportunity to care for Regina while she was sick. I was able to take her to many hospitals, St Peter’s, St John, Kiambu, and Kenyatta, until she was diagnosed with cancer. It was a very difficult time, and every hospital visit left us wondering how we would face the next step,” she narrated.
Veronica recalled the moments of uncertainty and fear, explaining how they often wondered what path to take next as Regina’s condition fluctuated.
She lamented the difficult days and nights spent in hospitals, describing how she had to coordinate care, arrange appointments, and support Regina both physically and emotionally.
“It was a very difficult time. After every hospital visit, we wondered how we would manage the next step. The Reverend found us and promised he would walk with us through that journey. We were also able to open a WhatsApp group so that people could support her,” she added.

The friend also highlighted the role of a young girl who had been a constant presence throughout Regina’s hospital visits and final days.
Veronica said that it was this girl who discovered Regina had passed away at her Githurai 44 home.
“I want to introduce this young girl, this girl was with Regina at a time when I could not be there to watch over her at the hospital. I respect this girl very much because she walked with Regina until the very end. She was the one who found Regina after she had passed away. On that day, Regina had asked for a three-seater chair, and this girl was helping her when she died. The girl called, but no one answered, so the girl went to check her bedroom and found her lying there. If she had not gone that day, we would not have known that she had passed away,” she narrated.
She revealed her own regret at being delayed by work on the day Regina died, noting that she had promised to visit her but was unable to arrive in time.
“God truly hid this from me because the day before, I had promised Regina I would come see her, but I was busy at work. I was late, and it was this girl that God used to inform us that Regina had passed away. And now, let us give our best for Regina and let her rest in peace,” she said.
