Presenter Ali reveals why unfollowing Medina on Instagram is not proof of separation

By , September 17, 2025

Presenter Ali, the YouTuber-turned-Forex trader, has broken his silence after fans’ speculation over his marriage to Medina, which was fuelled by him unfollowing her on Instagram and failing to acknowledge her birthday.

Speaking during an interview with YouTuber Trudy Kitui on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Ali dismissed speculation that the unfollow meant they broke up, saying that the decision had nothing to do with the state of their relationship.

He said that unfollowing someone on Instagram does not automatically translate to the end of a marriage.

He added that he has even closer friends whom he does not follow on social media, and therefore, Kenyans should not view an unfollow as a sign of separation.

“As for the unfollowing, honestly, it is not only she that I have unfollowed on Instagram. For me, when you follow someone, it means you want to keep up with their life and their content. If at some point you feel you do not want to follow that anymore, then you can unfollow them. That does not mean you have broken up, it only means you have stopped following each other. To put it simply, I just wanted my own space,” he said.

Ali noted that relationships are naturally full of challenges, including disagreements, reconciliation, and even temporary distance, but these matters remain the responsibility of the people directly involved.

He said that it is his duty, together with his wife, to ensure that their love remains intact, and not the responsibility of outsiders to speculate or interfere.

“Let me say this in Kiswahili so I am understood. Relationships always come with challenges. There are disagreements, there is love, and sometimes there is separation, but all of that is part of life. I believe that when two people are in love, it is their responsibility to make sure that their relationship is in order, and that responsibility does not lie with outsiders. It is my duty to ensure that my relationship is okay, and if it is not, then it is between me and my wife to work on it and fix it,” he added.

Filtering content

Ali further explained that he unfollowed not only Medina but several people as part of his own decision to filter the kind of content he consumes online.

He said that social media can lead people into comparisons and unnecessary distractions, and he prefers to follow content that fuels his growth.

According to him, this decision was more about personal space and lifestyle adjustment than marital issues.

“For anyone who wants to understand me, they can go and check the people I follow. They will see that it has nothing to do with relationships. I even have friends who follow me and I do not follow them back, and I do not think it is a big deal. The truth is, sometimes when you are scrolling through your feed, you start comparing your life to others. For example, I could see Trudy posting about a new pair of shoes and then start comparing. But when you are transitioning, you want to follow things that help you grow. It does not mean those I unfollowed cannot help me, but sometimes you just want different energy,” Ali said.

He also expressed frustration at the way Kenyans often overemphasise social media actions, saying that while fans were making a big deal about Instagram, they overlooked the fact that he has never followed his wife on Facebook nor subscribed to her YouTube channel.

He insisted that his marriage should not be judged by social media gestures.

“In fact, Trudy, I do not follow you either, and yet we spend a lot of time together. So why would people assume that following or unfollowing someone online means something bigger? Kenyans take unfollowing very seriously, but out there, it is not such a big issue. People only noticed because I unfollowed my wife on Instagram, but I do not even follow her on Facebook, and I have never subscribed to her channel. Why then make Instagram such a big deal?”

Ali then urged fans to shift their focus from his personal life to his work as a content creator and forex trader, which he believes offers far more value to his audience.

He said that while he understands curiosity, the constant speculation about Medina’s whereabouts has become overwhelming and unnecessary.

“I have even received many direct messages with people asking me where Medina is, but honestly, I think it is time people started focusing on their own lives. Focus on me as a content creator and as a forex trader. That will give you more value than trying to dig into my personal life.”
