Oga Obinna: Those plotting attacks on Babu will face Raila’s followers
By Steve Ireri, October 17, 2025Comedian and media personality Oga Obinna has warned that the supporters of the late Raila Odinga have now shifted their allegiance to Babu Owino and that they will protect him at all costs.
Speaking in an Instagram video on Friday, October 17, 2025, Obinna emphasised that, at this moment, the army of Raila Odinga has effectively become the army of Babu Owino, and that every effort must be made to ensure that no harm comes to the young leader.

“I know that as a country we are not in a good place, but hold on. This message is for Babu Owino. I have seen a post that Babu put up stating that some people are planning to harm him around the time of Raila’s funeral. What I would say is that the army of Raila is now automatically the army of Babu Owino,” he said.

He highlighted the responsibility of young Kenyans, urging them to pause and reflect before engaging in actions that could harm fellow leaders or other citizens.
He cautioned that those most likely to be employed to carry out threats are impressionable youth who must exercise judgement and consider the implications of their choices on their families and futures.
He also stressed that it is imperative to resist being used in schemes motivated by bribery or small inducements.
“Even I, at this moment, am part of Babu’s army. We must protect the king, who is Babu, at all costs. Whatever is happening, those who are planning this must know that we are protecting Babu. As a young man, before you are sent to harm another young man, sit down and reflect. We must reject being used, young men,” Obinna said.
“We must reject being used, young men. If you are a young man, sit down and ask yourself questions. This does not apply only to Babu; it applies to every other young leader. Whoever it is, sit down and reflect on your family. Also, consider that if you accept a little money or bribe, ask yourself, What comes next?”
Threats
Oga Obinna’s warning came just hours after Babu Owino posted a message alerting the public that plans had been made to attack him on or before the day of Raila Odinga’s burial.
In the message shared on X, Babu also appealed that the late leader be accorded a dignified farewell devoid of violence.
“There are plans to attack me on or before the day of Baba’s burial. I am aware of the culprits behind the scheme. It is my prayer that we give Baba the befitting send off that he deserves devoid of unwarranted violence,” Babu posted.

This development unfolds as Kenya continues to mourn Raila Odinga, whose passing on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in India has plunged the nation into deep grief.
His body was repatriated on Thursday, October 16, to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where overwhelming crowds forced the military and airport security to adjust the planned reception.
Public viewings were relocated from Parliament Buildings to Kasarani Stadium to accommodate the thousands of mourners, while the state funeral at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, October 17, featured full military honours, hymns, and addresses from both local and international leaders.
Raila Odinga will be laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his family homestead in Bondo, Siaya County, beside his mother, Mary Odhiambo Odinga.
