Noti Flow: I became a lesbian because of Mustafa

Kenyan rapper Noti Flow has opened up about her sexuality, revealing that her decision to become a lesbian was influenced by her troubled relationship with her ex-lover, legendary musician Colonel Mustafa.

During an appearance on Obinna’s YouTube channel on Monday, August 26, 2025, Noti Flow revealed that her youthful relationship with Mustafa left her emotionally scarred. She explained that the experience was so painful that it completely changed her perception of men, leading her to embrace same-sex relationships.

According to the rapper, she was deeply in love with Mustafa at the time, but his actions left her feeling betrayed and disillusioned. The disappointment, she noted, was not just directed at him but extended to men in general, which ultimately influenced her decision to walk away from heterosexual relationships altogether.

“That was a long time ago. I was young and experimenting. I became a lesbian because of him. He made me give up on men. I thought if he could do what he did, I don’t think any other men would be different. I used to love him so much. He really disappointed me, and in turn, I got disappointed in all men,” she said.

Proposal

While explaining her sexuality, Mustafa unexpectedly went down on one knee to propose to her. The dramatic move caught Noti Flow off guard as the veteran artiste, visibly emotional, pulled out a ring and declared his feelings.

“Umekuwa is special to me since way back, and you still have a special part of my heart. Nakukubali sana… wewe ndo queen na niko tayari kupiga tattoo yako anytime. Can you be mine? We ndo nyota yangu,” Mustafa expressed.

Noti Flow appeared shocked at the proposal and at first thought it was a joke. “You’re joking, right? It’s a prank, right?” she asked.

When Mustafa insisted that he was serious and explained that the ring had sentimental value, even saying it had been given to him by his mother, Noti Flow quickly dismissed it.

“It’s not a prank, my mom gave it to me, it’s for you,” Mustafa assured.

But Noti Flow replied firmly: “Don’t bring your mom into this.”

The rapper explained that she was already in a relationship and that the public proposal put her in an uncomfortable position. “I’m seeing someone, you can’t do this to me, I’m gonna look bad,” she told him.

Despite Mustafa’s repeated pleas for a second chance, she stood her ground. She reminded him that their appearance on the show was only for music promotion and stressed that while she still cared for him, her love was no longer romantic.

“Mi sikujua, si tumekuja hapa kupromote ngoma, I’m sorry, I love you, as a friend,” she clarified.

Mustafa, looking dejected, responded: “Nilidhani tumekuja hapa tumalize huu mchezo, basi nisingekam kwa hii show.”

The pair share a complicated and often dramatic history. They previously dated and worked together on projects, but their relationship was marred by frequent public spats. Earlier this year, in January 2025, Mustafa accused Noti Flow of assault, claiming she had bitten and scratched him, forcing him to hide knives out of fear.

Despite the rocky past, the two reconciled earlier this month on a local TV station on August 15, 2025. During that appearance, Mustafa admitted that she was important to him and his career. “Hii ni yako baby girl, today I want to say this, nimejua umuhimu wake, she is very important to me, to my career,” he said. Noti Flow responded with forgiveness: “Yeah, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t. He is a good friend too, and I forgive you.”

Their reconciliation coincided with the release of Katika, which has already attracted wide attention.
