Nazizi says she stayed indoors nearly a year after her son’s death

Veteran reggae and hip hop artiste Nazizi Hirji has revealed that she stayed indoors for almost one year after her son Jazeel Adam’s tragic death.

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Nazizi revealed that she did not leave her house for almost a year after her son died and did not want to see people who said they were coming to visit her.

She added that she would make excuses and tell them she was not around.

“I did not leave my house for almost a year after my son died ata sikutaka kuona watu wakisema wanakuja kuniona na make excuss. Nawaambia mimi siko,” Nazizi said.

Support system

The legendary musician, in addition, stated that she used to pray and meditate as a way of dealing with grief. She added that her family and friends also provided support, disclosing that Wyre and Prezo used to visit her almost daily.

“For emotional support, I can say it is prayer and meditation; my support system is my family. I have friends; some of my close friends will always check up on me. My friends are forever,” she said.

Apart from family and friends, Nazizi revealed that her fans also supported her.

The time nimekuja kujua niko na fans ni hii time nimepitia wakati ngumu kuna wasani wakipata shida, fans wanapotea,” she revealed.

For me, it has been the opposite; posts zangu zimetripple mara kumi, I can get comments hadi na shanga, and it is all positive. I pull up a post when I’m sad or down. Wasee wananikumbusha, Nazz wewe ni legend, wewe umetoka mbal,i get up do not give up, na siyo tu kwa online. I live in Nairobi; mimi si mtu wa kujifungia ndani.

Additionally, Nazizi said that during the grieving period, people had been very good to her, and it was then that she truly felt she had fans, not just through support for her music, but on a personal level.

“Hii time nimekuwa na grief, watun wamekuwa so good to me,and this is the time I really felt niko na fans,sijawai feel through the support of music but sijafeel in a personal level,” Nazizi said.

She further thanked her fans and all the people who supported her during the difficult moment.

I want to thank Kila Mtu Mwenye alicome through for me hiyoo time mbaka sahi,” she added.

Jazeel’s death

The heartbreaking incident unfolded at a hotel where the family was staying in Tanzania, in a press statement dated December 26, Nazizi said that Jazeel passed on December 25, 2023.

According to the statement, Jazeel was laid to rest on December 26 in Nairobi, due to the religious customs of the family.
