Miss Morgan: I earned Ksh100,000 a month from Tahidi High

Former Tahidi High actress Angel Waruinge, popularly known as Miss Morgan, has opened up about the money she earned during her stint on the former hit TV series.

Speaking in a YouTube interview with Alex Mwakideu, which aired on Thursday, August 14, 2025, she revealed that the gap between production income and actors’ pay was staggering.

During the conversation, Mwakideu asked whether the salaries at Tahidi High ever increased during her tenure.

Miss Morgan clarified that it wasn’t a matter of them not being paid, but rather the payments not matching the value they brought in.

“I was being paid like Ksh100,000 a month. Tahidi High was not seasonal. We were shooting every June and July,” she explained.

Exposure instead of lasting benefits

When asked whether the show brought in clients or long-term opportunities for the actors, Miss Morgan responded with a dose of realism.

“Exposure. Unaona vile tunaishi Kenya? It is you and yourself. I am so sorry. Maybe I am not allowed to say that, but that’s the truth. That’s how… ukoloni mambo leo,” she said, likening the situation to a modern form of exploitation.

Mwakideu further inquired if the cast was allowed to take up other acting roles while still on Tahidi High. Miss Morgan said they were not permitted to do so, but she sometimes took risks.

Struggles during COVID-19 pandemic

Miss Morgan recalled that her most difficult period came during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, years after she had already left the show in 2017.

“I am not blaming anything on anybody,” she clarified, noting that she had joined the show back in 2006 and enjoyed an 11-year run.

Her revelations have reignited discussions around fair compensation in Kenya’s entertainment industry, with many pointing to Tahidi High as an example of a production that reaped huge financial rewards while its actors struggled to secure lasting financial stability.
