Maureen Waititu shows love to Zambian woman bullied for her looks
By Ascah Mwango, September 6, 2025Kenyan content creator and influencer Maureen Waititu has come out in support of Zambian lawyer Naomie Pilula, who became the subject of intense online bullying after a selfie she shared went viral.
Maureen took to Instagram on Friday, September 5, 2025, praising the Zambian beauty for standing tall against the trolls, describing her as a woman who embraced her identity with pride and refused to be broken by harsh words.
According to Maureen, the online hate did little to diminish Naomie’s shine. Instead, it only drew attention to her confidence and authenticity. She lauded Naomie as a queen who turned the tables on her critics by showing up unapologetically, proving that no amount of negativity could overshadow her.
“The other day, this gorgeous queen got ambushed by online trolls attacking her ‘imperfections’, whatever that is, according to online bullies, and guess what? They messed with the wrong one. She stepped on them as the queen she is! I don’t know what they expected her to do, but that hate only bounced off of her. They found her ready and unapologetic,” Maureen wrote in her Instagram story.

Maureen further celebrated Naomie’s character, describing her as not just stunning but also a woman with a warm personality and a heart of gold. She noted that the bullying incident had inadvertently introduced the world to a strong, resilient professional who inspires others to embrace their uniqueness.
She also pointed out her admiration for Naomie’s effortless style, even joking that she might borrow a few beauty tips from her.
“@naomie.pilula, you are a whoooole queen! Thanks to trolls, they made us know who you are, a boss lady with a heart of gold, it shows so effortlessly. Keep shining, I’ll come back for tips on a certain lippie I spotted on one of your images 99. Keep rising, mama! Lots of love from Nairobi,” she added.
Who is Pilula
Naomie Pilula, a 37-year-old lawyer based in Lusaka, Zambia, first caught global attention on June 23, 2025, when she posted a simple selfie on Instagram.
What seemed like an ordinary post soon exploded into a viral sensation, attracting over half a million comments. Instead of praise, the photo drew waves of criticism, with thousands of users mocking her appearance, particularly her nose, and questioning her beauty. Some even went as far as suggesting she should undergo cosmetic surgery, while others cast doubt on whether she was even a real person.

Naomie refused to take down her post despite the intense trolling. While she admitted the insults initially stung, she quickly found her footing and chose to confront the criticism with courage. Speaking later about the experience, she said that the episode forced her to reflect on her own healing journey.
Naomie shared that she reframed the incident as a chance to embrace her identity more fully. She cited scripture as her anchor, reminding herself that she was created with intention and that beauty is not defined by the harsh standards of strangers on the internet.
In the weeks that followed, her Instagram following, which had barely crossed 4,000 in April, skyrocketed to tens of thousands by late August. She has so far amassed over 90,000 followers on Instagram and has been the talk of the internet for weeks.
