Marioo addresses talk of music rivalry with Diamond Platnumz
By Steve Ireri, July 22, 2025Tanzanian singer Marioo has strongly denied allegations that his latest hit songs, which are dominating music charts across East Africa, were deliberately released to overshadow or counter Diamond Platnumz’s recent successful projects.
This is after the ‘Hakuna Matata’ hitmaker was, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, confronted with claims that his trending tracks were a form of retaliation against Diamond, following suggestions that Diamond previously promoted his music to eclipse Marioo’s releases.
“There are some people who have been saying that Marioo released this song as revenge for what Diamond did to him, claiming that Diamond promoted his own video to bring down Marioo’s song. They are also saying that Marioo’s current trending song is aimed at bringing down Diamond’s success as a form of revenge,” a Tanzanian YouTuber asked him during the interview.

In response, Marioo firmly dismissed the claims, making it clear that his focus is on his art and spreading positivity rather than getting entangled in unnecessary rivalries.
He insisted that he had never heard of the claims suggesting there was a feud between him and Diamond, and he equally dismissed the rumours that he was attempting to crown himself as the undisputed king of Bongo Flava music.
“There is no truth in that. If anything, the only time I could be accused of competing is when I crowned myself as the king of Bongo Flava, but even then, it was just for fun. As for these claims about pushing music to bring down someone else’s songs, I have never heard or engaged in such things,” he explained.
The award-winning artiste went on to highlight the unity and love that exists within the Tanzanian music industry, stating that collaboration and mutual support have always been his priority.
He noted that he has consistently appeared at events, including album launches of fellow artistes, more frequently than any other Tanzanian singer, and he commended the fact that this support has been warmly reciprocated back to him.
“As I have said before, we are here to continue showing love and proving to people that music can grow when we support each other. That is why I have continued to appear in the videos of fellow artistes more than anyone else, and they have also shown me the same kind of support in return,” he added.
