Lilian Ng’ang’a urges women to ditch wigs
By Nancy Marende, September 16, 2025Former Machakos First Lady Lilian Ng’ang’a has urged women to ease up on the culture of wearing wigs, arguing that they often undermine otherwise polished appearances.
In a statement on her Instagram stories on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Lilian noted that while many women invest heavily in makeup and fashionable outfits, the final look is sometimes spoiled by poorly done wigs.
“We need to honestly ease up on wearing wigs. Great make-up and outfits are spoiled by that not-so-well-done wig. Abandon, please. It’s too much,” she stated.

Karen Nyamu on wigs
This comes about two years after Karen Nyamu expressed regret about how she stopped wearing wigs just to please her ex, who told her he hated the hair covering.
Without naming her ex, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated senator in 2023, shared an old clip showing her wearing a wig during a campaign trail and expressed regret for removing the hair covering for the sake of her ex.
“This is a few years back at a political rally in Mombasa. Kabla nikutane na ka mtu kakaniambia vile kanachukia wigs nikazitupa mbali hahaha wacha tu nicheke sababu siwezi lia,” Nyamu wrote.

Nyamu, while responding to comments on her post, said that she blindly followed her ex’s instructions to get rid of her wigs.

A netizen commenting on Karen Nyamu’s post told her that she was just missing her ex, and she replied by saying that it was a good thing that he was still alive.
“Sema tu una miss (Just say you are missing him),” a netizen told Nyamu.
To which she replied,
“Uzuri hajakufa (he is not dead).”
Another netizen told Nyamu that she will just run back to her ex eventually.
“Utarudi tuu, utajirudisha mwenyewe (you will just go back to him),” the netizen commented.
“Nkirudi uniite Kang’ethe (I can’t go back),” Nyamu replied.
