Kumbe wewe iko na bwana: Why Fardosa’s internet moments have Kenyans hooked
By Ascah Mwango, August 23, 2025Fardosa is the internet’s newest darling. From Kakuma in Turkana to TikTok timelines all over Kenya, she has risen to fame in the most unexpected way. No filters and no heavy editing.
Every once in a while, someone comes along and takes over the internet without even trying. For days, that person has been Fardosa. She is not a polished influencer. She does not dance to trending songs or spend hours planning content. She simply lives her life, and thanks to her friend Shangazi, who films and shares those moments, she has become one of the most entertaining personalities on TikTok.
From her humble beginnings in Turkana’s Kakuma Refugee camp to her new adventures in Nairobi, Fardosa has given Kenyans countless moments of laughter. Her sayings have become viral sounds, her reactions turned into memes, and her honesty is the reason people call her the true queen of high standards. Let’s break down why Kenyans cannot stop hitting replay on her videos.
How it all began
It was Shangazi who first started recording Fardosa in Kakuma, Turkana. The clips were simple: eating together, cooking, getting braids, or just having casual conversations. But there was something about the way Fardosa reacted to ordinary things that instantly caught attention. Kenyans loved her wit, her blunt honesty, and the fact that she never pretended. Before long, what started as casual clips of her life turned into a social media wave.
Fans were so touched by her charm that they even came together to improve her home, buying her a bed, a carpet, and iron sheets for her house. What was just casual filming from Shangazi’s phone had opened the door to a whole new chapter in Fardosa’s life.
Rice and beans protest
One of her first truly viral clips came when she looked at a plate of rice mixed with beans and firmly refused to eat it. Food is always a topic with her. She makes it clear what she will not eat. Rice mixed with beans is a no.
“Hii si chankula yangu iliyomchanganyika ivi. Yangu nataka supu kando, na mchele kando. Iko sahani yangu ya supu apo nani inaiba,” she is heard talking in the video.
Her dramatic insistence on how she wanted her meal served, complete with the demand for a double portion, left viewers in stitches. Many went on to describe her as the true queen of high standards. Others jokingly referred to her as maskini mjeuri, while some said Fardosa was simply a cool kid born in the wrong geographical area.
Salt in raids
Fardosa is spiritual, and her energies do not lie. After getting her braids done, she received endless compliments. Instead of basking in the glory, she panicked. She reached for salt and sprinkled it all over her head, worried that too much admiration could attract bad luck or witchcraft. The seriousness with which she performed the ritual, while speaking with suspicion in her voice, turned into one of TikTok’s funniest clips.
Kumbe wewe iko na bwana
Now for the line that cemented her as a household name. In one scene, she was sitting with a friend when she suddenly discovered the friend was pregnant. Her reaction was instant and unforgettable.
“Kumbe wewe iko na bwana!”
She could not believe her friend had kept such a secret. She went on to press her, she asked how her friend could hide a whole husband and pregnancy when they spend time together.
“Nani inapea wewe hii kitu, naona apo iko kitu, iko mimba,” she insisted
“Mimi nakaa na wewe hapa, kumbe uko na bwana?” Fardosa scolded. The line turned into a viral sound, with thousands of Kenyans lip-syncing it, remixing it, and turning it into skits.
Mala and yoghurt awakening
If there is one thing Fardosa treasures, it is mala. She talks about it with a seriousness that makes people laugh. She once said even the doctor encouraged her to drink mala and eat nyama choma. To her, mala is not just a drink; it is a lifestyle. Fans have crowned her the Mala Queen.
“Watu ya TikTok inapenda mimi sana, napatia mimi maziwa mala, napatia nyinyi mbili mbili, kwa maana itaniroga mimi,” she told women in her village who referred her to mama ya TikTok
Then came the legendary yoghurt video. A fan had sent money, and Shangazi brought back yoghurt. Fardosa took a sip, paused, and her whole face lit up. She could not believe something could be so sweet. Her exact expression was priceless as she announced she could drink twenty bottles of it in one day.
“Kumbe hii kitu ni tamu hivi, namaliza hii kumi na tano,” Fardosa said.

The internet exploded. People replayed that video countless times, and supermarkets became part of the joke as fans said they should stock up before Fardosa cleared the shelves. Women jumped on challenges, dubbing it, “when you taste love from a 40-year-old man with money”
City life
Fardosa’s internet fame has not just stayed online. Support from fans and well-wishers has transformed her life. She moved to Nairobi, where she has been discovering new experiences. Her first car rides, her first elevator trip, and her first encounters with city life all became little episodes that fans celebrated with her.
She has also been invited to a local TV station, where she shared her story. In one emotional moment, she and Shangazi broke down in tears when they met a kindhearted supporter live on air.
While in her luxurious hotel room, Fardosa made it clear that she had no plans of leaving the city, saying Shangazi will stay with her kids in Kakuma while she enjoys the comfort Nairobi was offering.
“Me sitarudi Kakuma, mimi nitakaa hapa Nairobi. Shangazi atakaa na watoto Kakuma. Hapa Nairobi nataka nikae kwa ajiri ya maziwa mala na nyama,” she declared.
Why Kenyans can’t get enough
What Kenyans love most about Fardosa is her refusal to settle. She has been nicknamed Maskini Jeuri (poor but proud), not as an insult but as admiration. She knows what she likes and what she does not. She rejects what she considers beneath her. If that does not describe a bar so high…
The truth is simple. Fardosa is relatable, funny, and real. She never hides her feelings. She never sugarcoats her words. She never pretends to be someone else. She reacts the way many of us would, but with a confidence that makes it unforgettable. She is a reminder that sometimes the most ordinary people create the most extraordinary joy.
