Kikuyu content creator WaJoy heartbroken after mother passes away

Kikuyu content creator Joy Mathenge, alias WaJoy, is mourning the sudden death of her mother, who had been a regular presence in her skits and social media content.

Wajoy confirmed the news in a post on social media on Friday, October 24, 2025, revealing that her mother passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

In her post, WaJoy recalled that her mother had appeared in one of her skits about two weeks ago and mourned how untimely her death had been.

“Aki, this was 2 weeks ago, Mum.  She was a vibe. Anytime I did a video with her, she would say. Oh my God, they will see me in this video and the way I look,” she wrote.

She described her mother as a vibrant presence who would always comment on how she looked and worry about being seen in the videos, while Wajoy reassured her that she would appear because she was her mother.

Wajoy expressed that she loved her mother deeply and acknowledged that God had done His will, asking her mother to rest in peace.

“Mum, you know I loved you,I still do, and God has done his will, mum. Rest mum rest,” she added.

She reflected on the joy her mother brought to her content, noting that anytime they filmed together, her mother’s energy and humour made the videos special.

Wajoy highlighted that her mother’s personality had been a key part of the skits, and she appreciated the moments they shared, calling her mother a vibe and emphasising the bond they had both on and off camera.

“I would always tell her that yes, people will see her in my skits because you are my mum. I love this woman, Ngai,” Wajoy wrote.

Followers and fans of Wajoy have since flooded her social media pages with messages of condolences, recognising the warmth, laughter, and authenticity her mother contributed to her videos.

Regina Muthoni’s death

Earlier this month, the Kikuyu community was again plunged into mourning following the untimely death of renowned ‘Yesu Ulishinda’ hitmaker Regina Muthoni.

The gospel singer passed away on the night of Thursday, October 2, 2025, leaving the gospel industry, which she had helped pioneer, in mourning.

Her death was confirmed by music director Ephantus Safari, who shared how devastated he was by the loss.

In a Facebook post, Ephantus reflected on Regina’s long career, noting that she had touched countless lives with her music and embodied the true definition of a singer who inspires generations after generations.

Ephantus also described Regina as a true minister who used her singing to preach and who consistently radiated hope in salvation.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of our legendary gospel musician Regina Muthoni, the voice behind the timeless song ‘Yesu Ulishinda.’ Mama Regina’s music has touched countless lives and her legacy of faith will continue to inspire generations to come. We celebrate her life, her ministry through music, and the hope she carried in Christ,” he wrote.

He further prayed for her soul, asking God to grant her peaceful rest in eternity, and offered comforting words to her family during this difficult time.

“Our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans, and the music community at large. May her soul rest in eternal peace. It is well!”
