Juma Jux opens up on wife Priscilla Ojo’s conversion to Islam
By Valerian Khakayi, July 26, 2025Veteran Tanzanian singer Juma Mkambala, alias Juma Jux, has shared an intimate look into the spiritual and emotional journey that led his wife, Priscila Ojo, daughter of Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo, to embrace Islam.
Speaking during an interview with Tanzanian YouTuber Millard Ayo, Jux described the conversion process as challenging, but he says it was handled with patience and respect.
The bongo star admitted that convincing his wife to convert involved gentle persuasion, adding that he attended training sessions with sheikhs and religious mentors who guided him on how to proceed thoughtfully.
He further revealed that after the conversion, Priscila adopted the name Hadizah.
“Mimi na mke wangu hasuri yetu ya ukweli kabisi ilikuwa ni Nikkah kwa sababu yeye ka badilisha dini, sasa hivi jina yake ni Hadizah Mkambala sio Priscy,”he revealed.
“Ilitumia nguvu kidogo mkumshawishi kuwa mwisilamu, lakini mimi pia nilikuwa napata mafunzo kutoka kwa masheikh na watu wanaojua dini zaidi so there was a way walikuwa wananiambia njinsi ya kufanya.“
Jux on wedding
The couple have had four wedding celebrations, their journey began in Tanzania, where the couple held an intimate Nikkah and civil wedding ceremony. This marked the spiritual and legal union that preceded the lavish public celebrations.
However, he explained that for them, the only true wedding was the Nikkah, noting that their anniversary would fall on February 7, when they officially sealed their union.
“Harusi yetu ya kiukweli ni Nikkah, anniversary yetu itakuwa mwezi wa pili tarehe saba ndio tumefunga ndoa,”he revealed.
“Familia yao ni bado ya kikristo na mama yake ni mtu ambaye ana imani sana so aliomba akasema ‘sawa mshafunga ndoa na tayari ni mwisilamu lakini mimi kama mzazi wakati mtoto wangu nakukabidhi naomba nifanye kama blessings tu’ ndio maana hatukuenda kanisani.“
“Kwa utamaduni wao ilibidi tufanye traditional wedding sasa kwao hiyo ndio harusi, unajua wa Nigeria traditional wedding is crazy. Baada ya hapo tukafanya civil wedding kwa sababu ya makaratasi.”
Love story
Their love story began at a Rwandan airport when Juma Jux missed his flight and ended up near the business class lounge, right where Priscillia was seated. She laughed at his frustration, and something clicked immediately.
“The first day I saw Priscilla in Rwanda, I missed my flight and could not get a business-class seat because it was completely. I was pissed off, and after passing through the business class section, I saw her laughing at me,” Jux disclosed in a previous interview.
On Friday night, June 20, 2025, during an interview with a local media station, Jux opened up about the powerful and almost instantaneous connection that led him to marry Priscillia Ojo after just days of courtship.
He described his reaction upon first seeing Priscillia as just a natural feeling and completely unexplainable.
“It is just something natural that I cannot explain; it is the feeling that I cannot explain. It is just the way nilivyomwona the feelings I had about her nikasema tu she is the one and I did not want to waste time kwa sababu ni feeling ambayo sijawai kuipata kwa mara ya kwanza mtu kumwona,” Juma Jux explained.
