Guardian Angel speaks on reason wife Esther does not pay their rent despite having a job
By Steve Ireri, August 12, 2025Gospel singer Audiphaxad Peter Omwaka, alias Guardian Angel, has opened up on why his wife, Esther Musila, does not help him pay rent despite having a job and a steady income.
Speaking exclusively to Alex Mwakideu on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the artiste revealed that he has always been the one to handle rent payments throughout his life, a responsibility he continues to bear in their household.
“Since I started my career, I have always paid rent; it has been my responsibility all my life. Even though she works and earns an income, we live comfortably. We use my money to cover our expenses because it is sufficient for the two of us,” Guardian Angel said.
He explained that Esther does not need to contribute financially at home, noting that his brother-in-law is also self-sufficient and does not require any support from them.
While not clearly revealing how she uses her money, he insisted that they simply ensure they enjoy life with his money, which he insisted is more than enough for their needs.
“We enjoy life because my money is enough. We pay rent and manage our household with what I provide,” he added.

Guardian Angel further emphasised that their lifestyle is modest and free from extravagant celebrations.
He said that because of this, they are never in a position where they need to exhaust his money and start spending Esther’s.
“Our income is ample, and since it is just the two of us living here, even if we started eating it all, it would not run out quickly. We are saved people, so we do not indulge in big parties or celebrations,” he said.
He described their simple lifestyle, saying they prefer small gatherings and modest meals like roasted chicken rather than throwing extravagant events.
“We cannot do those heavy responsibilities of lavish parties,” he added.
Career regrets
In the same interview, the ‘Wakati wa Mungu’ hitmaker reflected on the early stages of his music career, acknowledging the heavy reliance on external support and opportunities to advance.
He explained that during that period, artistes were often dependent on being discovered by individuals who would offer studio time for free.
Recording songs and shooting music videos, he said, usually happened without financial compensation, as artists lacked access to steady revenue streams.
“In terms of music, I would have told my younger self to find other skills beyond music that could generate income if I needed to focus my energy elsewhere. When we started out, we relied heavily on support from others, someone spotting your talent and taking you to the studio to record for free, including making videos at no cost if you found help,” Angel said.
He added that despite having recorded music, many faced financial challenges because the bills and expenses remained, yet earnings were minimal or nonexistent.
“Back then, there were no steady revenue streams, so you ended up with recorded songs but no money, while the bills kept coming,” he added.
