Guardian Angel reveals he has turned down international gigs that barred his wife’s attendance
By Steve Ireri, August 12, 2025Gospel singer Audiphaxad Peter Omwaka, alias Guardian Angel, has disclosed that he has declined numerous international performances, including lucrative shows in the United States, because organisers refused to allow his wife to accompany him.
He emphasised that he has never been away from his wife for more than 24 hours and insists on performing abroad only if she is present.
Speaking during an interview with Alex Mwakideu on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the singer explained that his wife is not only his partner but also his manager in many ways, and their bond is inseparable when it comes to work commitments.
“The longest we have been apart is only one day, just 24 hours. You know, I cannot go to any show outside the country if I am not going with my wife. There are many shows, even in the United States, but if she cannot come, I would rather not perform. I have turned down such shows before. I cannot go anywhere without my wife because I want to be close to her. I love her. My wife is also my manager in some ways. But even if she were not my manager, I would still go with her. We would go together with my manager as well,” he said.
He recounted how he has turned down shows simply because he was expected to perform alone, stressing that he would rather forgo the opportunity than be separated from her.
He pointed out that when he is invited to perform internationally, it is a privilege for him, but he expects that the organisers treat his entire team with respect, including his wife.
He criticised promoters who ask him to come alone while expecting him to handle everything himself, including bringing his band and photographers.
“So I have declined several gigs because I view this situation like this: when you call me to perform in the States, it is a privilege for me, so if you tell me I have to pay for my wife myself, no, come on. We are representing people from this country, and you want me to come alone? Who will take the photos? I have to come with my team. So if you want to invite me, you must also handle my team. If my team comes, then it’s fine. Do not be fooled into thinking that if I refuse to come, I will lose something,” he added.

Guardian Angel then revealed that one of the gigs he declined offered as much as Ksh800,000, but still did not allow his wife to attend, a condition he could not accept.
On that note, he called for respect and fairness in the treatment of artistes, insisting that after the struggles they have endured, they deserve proper value.
He also clarified that the issue is not about affording travel expenses for his wife but about dignity and unity in his professional life.
“I think the biggest show I ever declined was paying Ksh800,000, and it was in the States. I said no. Let us have some respect. I am not at the level where you give me an opportunity, and I suffer so much; now just give me value. If you feel that value has not reached that level, just forget about it. We have suffered to get here. It is not that I cannot afford my wife’s ticket,” he added.
