Diana Bahati’s former nanny Irene warns ladies against getting over 2 kids

Diana Bahati’s former househelp, Irene Nekesa, has advised women against giving birth to more than two children recklessly, warning that doing so may rob them of the freedom and pleasure of truly enjoying life.

Speaking in a video posted on her YouTube channel on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Irene expressed that having more than two children significantly limits a woman’s ability to indulge in worldly pleasures, adding that she was content because she only has one child.

According to Irene, any woman struggling to control the urge to keep having children should seek family planning services before they find themselves overwhelmed and unable to enjoy life due to being tied down by numerous responsibilities.

“If you have one or two children at most, at least you will be able to enjoy life. Do not go on having too many, my friends. People should go for family planning so they can organise themselves well and experience joy. Right now, let us be honest, life is short. People should eat everything they want and enjoy life. Just ensure you have your children, but do not go beyond two,” she said.

Irene, who has since launched her own YouTube channel after leaving the Bahatis’ household, added that giving birth to more than two children also imposes major restrictions on a woman’s financial freedom, as most of her salary will perpetually be redirected to meeting her children’s needs.

She cited an example of individuals earning Ksh50,000 or Ksh100,000, explaining that with five children, such people would barely experience the feeling of having a decent income, as all the money would be consumed by school fees and daily upkeep.

“You will never feel like you have money. Let us say your salary is Ksh50,000 or Ksh100,000, and you have five children. There are school fees to pay and food expenses too,” she noted.

Irene stated that her advice came from a place of concern, as she understood that the pressure of trying to provide for too many children could easily crush women emotionally and mentally.

“My friends, pressure will kill you,” she said.

Naivasha retreat

Irene was speaking from Naivasha, where she had travelled for a few days of rest and personal retreat.

While there, she gave the example of her son Joshua, saying she had been away for several days but did not feel overwhelmed with worry, precisely because she has only one child.

She explained that she had not even left Joshua with much, but as a boy who is growing up, she trusted that he would find his way around and take care of himself.

“Right now, I do not even know where Joshua is, but he is a man; let him cook for himself. I do not want to return to Nairobi, my friends. Can I not just stay here in Nanyuki? You can even see I am glowing,” she said with laughter.
