Comedian Kafengo reveals KK Mwenyewe’s burial plans
By William Muthama, July 19, 2025Comedian Kafengo has officially announced the burial plans for the late content creator and satirical comedian Zakaria Kariuki, popularly known as KK Mwenyewe.
The beloved comic, who passed away earlier this week while seeking medical treatment, will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at his family home in Gathiroini village, Lari, Kiambu County.
Kafengo, a close friend and fellow comedian, made the announcement after meeting with KK’s family, the local burial committee, members of the community, and clergy from the church KK attended.
In a video posted on Saturday, July 19, 2025, through his Tik Tok, Kafengo shared an update following a meeting in Lari, where KK hailed from. The two had frequently collaborated in comedic skits that endeared them to online audiences.
“So, yesterday we went to KK Mwenyewe’s village in Lari to plan the burial. We sat down with the committee, family, and church, and we came up with a date for the burial. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025,” Kafengo said.
KK Mwenyewe, whose real name was Zakaria Kariuki, died while receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
He rose to prominence in 2022 for his hilarious and spot-on impersonations of then Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, earning him a massive following on TikTok and other social platforms.
Earlier in the day, the family of the late comedian and actor KK Mwenyewe expressed heartfelt gratitude to Kenyans for their continued support.
The family made the statement during Kafengo’s visit to Lari, where KK’s mother emotionally thanked supporters for standing with them
“KK was my son. I loved him so much. He was the only support I had, but things happened as they did because of God’s will. I thank this team for helping us raise burial funds. As you can see online, people are continuing to support us through the till number. Each one of you, please continue supporting us. Thank you very much,” KK’s mother said.
In a separate message, KK’s uncle also appealed for continued assistance. “We kindly request that you continue supporting us as you are doing online. As a family, we depended on KK. I am his uncle, and we ask you to keep helping us just as you have been,” he stated.
Funeral contributions are ongoing, with hopes that the young star will receive a dignified send-off.
