Alex Mwakideu: I want to be celibate for a month

Mwakideu, through his morning radio show on Monday, October 6, 2025, explained that the idea came from seeing how much people have been talking about celibacy in Kenya.
He said this challenge will begin next month, once October ends. “Nataka niwe celibate. Mungu anishikilie,” Mwakideu said. He admitted that people have started seeing him as an enemy of celibacy, but he wants to prove them wrong.
“Watu wanaanza kuniona kama mimi ni adui wa celibacy. Nataka nijaribu hata mwezi tu. Just one month.”

According to Mwakideu, he has never taken such a break before.
“Sijawai kukaa mwezi. Sijawai kupumzika. I need sometimes off, one month,” he said. The radio personality explained that he wants to test his strength and see if he can stay committed to the decision for 30 days.
He said that he plans to begin in November because he wants to finish the current month and prepare mentally. “Nataka hii mwezi iishe, November naenda nalo,” he added.
Wife’s support is key
Mwakideu said that before he starts, he will talk to his wife about it. He believes her support will be very important for the plan to work. “Bora mama (his wife) akubali, akikubali…” he said.
He added that this challenge is not about judging others or showing off, but about discipline and personal growth. Mwakideu said celibacy has become a trending topic, and many people are curious about what it really means. By trying it himself, he wants to experience it firsthand and see what lessons he can learn from it.
The radio host described himself as a man who loves challenges and never gives up easily. “Challenge hazinishindi,” he declared. Mwakideu now looks forward to November to see if he can successfully complete the one-month celibacy test.
His remarks have drawn attention, with many now curious to see if he will keep his word and complete the one-month celibacy challenge he has set for himself.
