All the six suspects who were arrested at the weekend over the Sh72 million ATM heist have been ordered taken to hospital.

The suspects were arraigned on Monday before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku as police sought to detain them for seven more days for further investigations.

However, the suspects’ lawyer Cliff Ombeta threw a spanner in the works after telling the court that the police tortured them, a serious crime prohibited by the Constitution in the Bill of Rights.

“The detectives went into the suspects houses and destroyed and broke the ceiling, the toilet and destroyed mattresses,” Ombeta said in court.

The magistrate ruled that the torture allegations were serious and the suspects needed medical attention.

Mutuku ordered the suspects taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The ruling on the prosecution’s application to detain the six for seven days will be made on Tuesday, September 9, 2019.
