Unidentified people stormed a kiosk in Masingo, Kakamega town on Sunday night and hacked to the owner then disappeared in a chilling remainder of the gory murders that rocked parts of the county early this year.
Kakamega County Police Commander Bernard Muli confirmed the killing, saying police have launched investigations.
“Members of the public called to report that a body of a male adult with visible injuries was found in a food kiosk. The body has been taken to the mortuary,” Mr Muli told K24 Digital on Monday.
But Mr Muli said the killing is not connected to the murders perpetrated by unknown people in parts of Matungu, Butere, Khwisero and Kilingili in the neighbouring Vihiga County.
The food vendor had stab wounds and cuts on his body.
At least 17 people were killed in Matungu sub-county of Kakamega County between March and May this year. Twelve people and five suspects were lynched during the violent orgy.
Those killed in Matungu included high school students, night watchmen and women.
In June, the government deployed heavy security, including General Service Unit, and upgraded local police stations.
In addition, the Interior ministry also imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew to restore order.
Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala, Matungu MP Justus Murunga and ex-cabinet secretary Rashid Echesa were arrested in connection with the Matungu killings but were freed without being charged.
