Azimio One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga is the most preferred candidate in the polls slated for August 9, the latest survey by IPSOS shows.
In the data released on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, IPSOS placed Raila ahead of the pack with 47 per cent against his closest challenger William Ruto of the Kenya Kwanza alliance who has an approval rate of 41 per cent.
George Wajackoyah of the Roots party and Agano’s David Mwaure were ranked third and fourth with 2.9 and 0.2 per cent popularity ratings respectively.
The firm said 8.8 per cent of those polled said they were undecided on who to vote for in the presidential contest.
“We have those who refused to answer that particular question, maybe they know and they are afraid or scared, and they make up 5.1 per cent,” IPSOS Director for East and Horn of Africa Samuel Muthoka said.
The survey by IPSOS identified 12 battleground counties that Muthoka said are likely to determine who wins the August 9 contest.
The counties include: Lamu, Nyamira, Wajir, Mombasa, Kitui, Samburu, Nakuru, Narok, Kiambu, Bungoma, Tana river and Marsabit.
“Raila Odinga has 18 counties where voter preference is above 55% compared to William Ruto has 17 counties where voter preference is at 55% however, there are 11 counties that are the battleground and will determine who will the election,” Muthoka added.
