The year 2022 has not been very smooth for Kenyan stand-up comedian Akuku Danger. He has been in and out of hospital for the better part of the year, draining him and his close family members both financially and emotionally.

The entertainer, born Mannerson Oduor Ochieng, has been battling Sickle Cell Anemia, a chronic blood condition that has kept him in and out of the hospital for years.

He was rushed to the hospital on Thursday, June 8 after developing some lung complications, a few months after being discharged.

Akuku Danger’s lover, Sandra Dacha, said on Friday, June 10 that the boyfriend will be marking his birthday in hospital.

The actress penned a sweet Instagram post to wish him a happy birthday and speedy recovery.

“Happy birthday @itsakukudanger and speed recovery. This too shall come to pass,” Sandra captioned a recent photo of her and Akuku Danger.

Sandra has been very supportive throughout the comedian’s illness this year.

Early this year, she led a fund drive that saw Akuku Danger’s colleagues in the industry raise over Ksh3 million to clear his huge hospital bill.

Akuku is my Bae…he is my boyfriend. Now that he is healed, kijana anafaa aende nyumbani, akule na akule ndio apone kabisa. Kijana saizi hakuli vizuri (My boyfriend needs to go home and eat well so that he heals completely. He’s not eating well),” Sandra joked.

Akuku Danger’s boss at Laugh Industry, Daniel Ndambuki alias Churchill, was among notable figures in the entertainment industry who came through for one of their own.

“Akuku Danger was born with Sickle Cell Anemia and it keeps coming and going. That’s cancer of the blood and he is always in and out of the hospital. Being able to come here and entertain you is what has kept him going. Imagine being told you have a year to live,” Churchill said during his New Year’s eve show at Garden City Mall.

“Do you know how depressing that is? But he keeps going. The thing with the disease is that when it hits, it hits very hard. So today we want to dedicated this show to Akuku Danger and part of the proceeds from the show will go towards clearing his bill.”
